President's Message

I am excited to extend to my fellow Rotarians a heartfelt WELCOME to this newsletter and to encourage you to embrace a technology package that I feel our club will benefit from in the near future. Recall my earlier quote: “Change is not a four letter word, only a person’s reaction to it is.” So if you need to go ahead and “react,” then give it some thought and time. Hopefully you will also come to seeing its value.

So, I welcome you to this very first edition of the “Sunupian” newsletter. A weekly communique to keep our Sunup members and friends apprised of up to date info on the doings of our great Rotary club. This will help ensure that if you miss a Wednesday morning meeting or a committee meeting you will not be out of the loop and have to wait a week to get important information.

Our newsletter will give you a heads up on meeting assignments, and upcoming speakers, projects and fundraisers. There will be tidbits on veteran members as well as incoming new members. We plan to have lots of photos.

Good, bad, or indifferent, we are all aware that digital appliances, illuminating brightly colored electrons every day, are now a fact of life for most people. We must embrace this technology to keep up with the trends, other clubs, District and more importantly, to help attract new members. This will be one important tool in our arsenal. Hey, don’t get me wrong, the newsletter and the website will complement our recruiting efforts. However, nothing replaces a good old one on one discussion with potential new members or having them come to a meeting. They will however be helpful options to refer them to as a way to reinforce our message.

In addition to our membership, we will be sending our newsletter to anyone in the community who is interested in what we do and especially prospective new members, our various speakers, sponsors, and other people with whom we want our club to be connected.

We invite member participation and contributions. If you have something that you would like to communicate to your fellow Sunup members and/or friends, this is the place to do it. We will be looking to do featured member profiles in the near future so please don’t be shy on this. Send us your thoughts. We also want photos, lots of photos.

Enjoy!

Other functions of our package:

Website

While we are using this application called ClubRunner for our newsletter, there are are a host of other applications that are included in our package to advantage us. Some of the key info published in the newsletter will also be linked to our new website and it will then be updated automatically. Websites are generally the first impression given to someone looking for a Rotary club to attend or try out. Our website will be great looking and interactive in a user friendly way.  . To check out our new website click here. Click Log in and click on "new and existing user" to get your password. Go to your profile and fill in the missing blanks. Upload your favorite photo. If you need help just let us know.

Membership Info

ClubRunner allows you to update your personal information now and whenever it changes. You can even add or change your photo. You know …..that one where you look ten years younger. This will automatically update the district and RI files. Another advantage to you is that, free of any additional charge, you can download the ClubRunner mobile app to your iPhone or Android.  It will automatically allow you to access our entire membership with their contact information “What a concept.” You will be able to look up members when you need their phone or email even while away from your computer.  Instructions will be forthcoming but if you need help please don’t hesitate to contact our administrator and he will be glad to help.

Committees & Events

ClubRunner will help to keep track of committees and volunteers as we move forward. We can also set up events, track sign ups, and payments. (Payments will continue to be made the old fashioned way though)

For the Bean-counters

Attendance and dues will be tracked and automatically sent to District & RI. All kinds of attendance reports can be produced with a click making much less work for the folks who work so hard at this. This data may be helpful to us as we look at recruiting and retention.

Advertising

Yes, members and other sponsors may advertise their business on the newsletter and website with an image that may be linked to your website. If you are viewing this site on line, click on the link at right of the newsletter front page to see the Website Sponsorship guideline.  We will be developing a fee schedule that will be affordable. Hopefully, this will help to defray the cost, or pay altogether for our use of ClubRunner.  Let us know if you are interested I know that I am.

Wrap!

At the end of the day this will bring our club into, or close to, the 21st Century. The ultimate goal is to improve our communications and club management, and of course, to bring in more quality, fun members like yourselves (But perhaps a little younger?).

Sara Tomsky’s thought for the day:  If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.  Dolly Parton

Sgt. At Arms Greg Raskins and his assistant Logan Williams fined almost everyone.  Poor Val was fined several times and the club voted to replace him with his lovely wife.  He ratted out Norm for getting arrested at 18 and he fined John Stewart for the amber alert at 5:00 that morning from Yuma.

Elaine Earle – Prescott Living Magazine

Elaine created Prescott Magazine because she feels Prescott is in need of a news outlet that speaks to the community.  She is the Principal & Account Manager of Rox Media Group, a company that publishes 17 different news magazines for smaller communities across Arizona.  She calls these town ‘Geographic Islands’. Elaine feels that Prescott Living can be the ‘voice of our community’ because their magazine talks about pertinent issues and activities happening right now.  They offer everyone in the community a chance to participant in the magazine and on their facebook by submitting editorials and pictures. Their inaugural issue, Summer 2017 features articles like ‘Why Prescott is the Softball Capital of Arizona and an interview with Melissa Ruffner. They feature columns on the local Chamber of Commerce, Prescott Unified School District and ERAU partner relationships as well as the Rodeo Grounds.

The magazine covers anything from Exercise Program Pitfalls to What Makes a Great Pizza.  The article on Willow Lake captured an attraction I drive past every day but did not know everything featured in the article.  Did you know that Willow Lake offers fishing prospects of Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Catfish, Bluegill and Sunfish.  Arizona Game and Fish Department regulations apply at all of the city-managed lakes.
