Former Air Force POW to Speak at Veterans Day Meeting Nov 15th
We are fortunate this Wednesday to have Colonel Jim Kula (Ret) as our speaker at a special Veterans Day meeting. Col Kula is an Air Force Academy graduate and flew as an F4 & F16 fighter pilot in both Vietnam and Iraq. He ejected over N. Vietnam in July, 1972 and was held as a POW for eight months. One of several commendations is a Distinguished Flying Cross. This will be a most interesting talk and we encourage you to invite friends and family members. You won't want to miss this one. Special thanks to Bilie Orr.
Meeting Highlights November 8
Great extractions:  Clent Walker was the Sarge and was assisted by his son, Josh,  toting the spittoon.  If you were  not sitting at the tale leg pay.  Dan's son is getting hitched and Dan & Carmen are leaving for a "bike" trip to Rocky Point.  Lots of compliments for our own Phil Goode winning a seat on the City Council and for our new Mayor, Mengarelli, attending as guest of Billie and Greg R.  If not sitting at table 3 you paid.  Bob B. recovery from hear surgery.  Jane Anne upcoming 2 week trip to the Holy Land.  Lots of happy bucks.
Paul Harris Fellow:  Jane Anne presented Norm Samuelson with his 4th Paul Harris Pin.
Raffle Winner:  Stan Steiner grabbed the pot.
Todd Clancy;  Todd informed us of the new Food Recovery Program.  Todd also recapped the Mex.American Conference he attended. Donations of $73K from 32 clubs in four districts  funded 16 projects and will provide $350K when District and RI matches are factored in.
Speakers Last week:   Judy Egan, a former Rotarian and member of the Yavapai Foundation Board, , spoke about Career and Tech Education.  Located by the airport they utilize $10 million donated by companies and grants for equipment. A student can earn  a certificate  after completing from 10 - 40 school credits over one or two years,   Because of a lack of skilled workers, graduates receive good job offers.   Tuition is affordable  at $100 per credit hour.  Bill Miller, who is President of the Yavapai College Foundation Board,  assisted Judy in answering many questions from the audience.  The CTEC is filling a glaring niche in our education system.  She has suggested that we tour the facility with a tour limit of 15.  We toured it several years ago and Vocational Chair Par Wood will work on it.

Good Morning Folks,
Last week’s talk by Judy Egan regarding the C-Tech program certainly was informative and yet another example of why we can be hopeful for the future generations. I look forward to touring their facilities with some of you.

Salute to all our veterans. Thank you one and all for your service. This is certainly a time for remembrance for those who died and to honor those who are still with us. I am certain that Sunup was well represented at the Parade!
I am particularly looking forward to hearing Jim Kula speak this week. Jim is a great hero, a true gentleman, and a committed family man. I know as I worked with him at ERAU for a time before he retired. I am sure that you will get a lot from his talk.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA):  Is not that far away (Jan. 12-15th 2018). Please help out if you can with the Kids Against Hunger appeal (previous email) so that we can have another successful service project this year.
FYI: I spent my Saturday and Sunday in Phoenix interviewing candidates for our Junior Councilors (J.C.s) for the upcoming RYLA. It is so refreshing to meet youngsters who are pursuing their potential as future leaders of our communities. I can’t wait to see them perform at RYLA in January.

Reminders :  *BOD Thursday Nov. 16. 4 PM Prescott Public LIbrary
*We are Dark on Nov. 22.  Happy Thanksgiving!
*Next meeting is Nov. 28th.
