"For he's a Jolly Good Fellow": Last Wednesday was Norm Samuelson's final day with Sunup Rotary…he will be sorely missed! Since the day he joined Sunup, Norm has been involved in the club primarily with the youth. He served as Youth Service Director prior to Ray Carlson, and has handled our inbound and outbound students at the District level with RYLA. In the community he was involved with CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates. He and his wife Joy are moving to Whidbey Island, Washington which will improve her health. Being an avid kayaker, there will be a lot of water for Norm to enjoy.
Great Extractions: Old Silver Tongue Rod Cordes returned for the second week in a row as sergeant-at-arms and enlisted Josh Walker to tote the spittoon. Jerry Fohrman is leaving for hunting and fishing in Montana. Par Wood attended Prescott Living Magazine’s Women in Business event, and joined 35 women for a photo. Dennis Light enjoyed his grandkids and a flight to Dallas. He also was thankful for his wife's green card. Greg Barstad paid for missing his Sarge duties on 8/15.
Val Ripley gave the thought for the day and provided this sage advice from his father: "Once a task has begun, never leave it till it's done. Be the labor great or small, do it well or not at all." Great advice Val, and a thought to remember and apply.
Speaker on August 15th: John Heiney, Tourism director for City of Prescott stated he has been here one and a half years and still is a tourist with so much to see. The City has a dynamic duo plugging Prescott with John's wife Sheri Heiney as CEO of the Chamber of Commerce. He touted our assets with being Arizona’s "Christmas City"; having 4 museums, 450 miles of multi-use trails and 1,400 hotel rooms, There are 800 homes on the historical register and 25 sites on the "Heritage Trail." Last year 30,000 visitors stopped by the Chamber. The bed tax provided $250,000 for local non-profits and $295,000 for city services. The top locales from which visitors come are Phoenix, Southern California, Tucson, Canada and Germany (which loves cowboys). Next, Ann Steward discussed the many rankings for Prescott in national magazines with one being in top 10 cities for well-being. She also handed out the map of the Heritage Trail History.

Good Morning Fellow Rotarians!
This week we say goodbye to a good friend of both Sunup Rotary and of the community of Prescott. Norm Samuelson is departing for parts north; Seattle, to be exact. Norm’s contributions to Sunup Rotary and to the youth of Prescott are without equal, and his absence will be keenly felt. Norm’s genuine care and concern for others embodies the concept of ‘service above self’. I believe I speak for all when I wish you Godspeed.
