Speaker 2/5: Richard Hernandez, Director of The Regional Economic Development Center for Yavapai College. Richard outlined the goals, strategies and initiatives for Yavapai College for 2015-2020. The REDC strives to support economic opportunities in the county by creating a sustainable job base, providing quality higher learning and create and implement a job placement program and improve awareness of Yavapai Colleges’ education and training opportunities. The REDC is in its’ 6th year of operations at Yavapai College. Services include business creation and expansion, work force development and Job creation along with regional economic collaboration and education. The vision of the REDC is to be the premier regional resource center for rural economic growth through policy analysis, work force development, research and education and through community engagement and bring the full assets of the college to the community. The REDCs’ Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has a federally funded SBA match program and the SBDC provides no cost counseling, access to capital, training and educational services. The Reginal Economics Development Center at Yavapai college provides educational training, support services for business and industry and fosters technical innovation, product enhancement and leadership development. Yavapai College graduates have few job opportunities in Yavapai county, forcing them to seek employment elsewhere and this creates a brain drain on the community. The college has acquired a 3D printer to print houses. This may be one way to create sustainable jobs for the area.
The Kaluga Russia Dance Troupe arrived last Thursday evening after a sightseeing trip to the Grand Canyon. They were dispersed to Rotary members’ homes from Sunup, Frontier and Prescott. Friday evening an audience of approximately 100 were treated to an exciting and fun evening of old world Russian folk dances and music. It was far beyond our expectations. Audience members were invited to go on stage and join in the dances. Even Dan Beyer was recruited to lead a tambourine ensemble. I'm sure he can replicate that for our Sgts at the next meeting.
It was a great show and we really enjoyed hosting our guests. Kudos to AJ Sheridan for setting it up.

Good Morning Sunupians,
Another excellent meeting is in the books, even though our scheduled speaker didn't show Richard Hernandez filled in with a very interesting program (thank you Richard). Please be sure to sign up to help with the snack shack and the PASS meals. Welcome to new member Roy Loo. If you think you might know someone who would make a good Rotarian please don't hesitate to bring them to a meeting in the near future. I look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday.
It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things. Leonardo da Vinci
