The New Member Celebration last Thursday evening was a huge success with more the 40 members and spouses attending. Many thanks for the efforts of Linda Mast and Laura Vanderberg, new members themselves, for putting on a great event. It was also great to see Tony Shaw in attendance. Christy Manning - Meeting Notes: Meeting called to order by Clent at 7am. Clent led in prayer, Donna in the flag salute, Richard in the 4-Way Test, Bruce picked the song, “America the Beautiful”, and Richard gave the thought of the day. Richard introduced the guests, Scott and Dr. Whitney James. Announcements: John Stewart thanked all that helped in the Veterans’ Memorial Cleanup. Matt helped clean up the tile. J0hn gave an update on Val. Jim introduced Rick M. who put on Cruisin’ for Vets. Rick announced that the event raised $25k and thanked Rotary for their support. There were over 600 cars, 163 meals given for free to Veterans & 3 pickup trucks full of canned goods donated. He presented the Club with a plaque and a sign for our table next year. Richard announced that he will be sending a poll out for dates after a Wednesday meeting to vote on. He also reminded us about the New Member Celebration this Thursday. Matt was the Sargent. Richard owed $5 for IOU. Matt spun the wheel and the whole club had to pay $1. Anyone who did not participate in the Veterans’ Memorial Cleanup had to pay $1. Christy had to pay a $1 for being the last one to the meeting. Jane Anne was fined for spilling water on Sharon. Matt fined himself for being in the paper. Phil was fined for a political ad on his chest. Everyone put in $1 for Val for Happy Bucks. Art reminded us to dine in Chipotle next Wednesday to support the Interact Club. Laura reminded us of the New Member Mixer on Thursday where Jane Anne’s husband will be providing the music. Bill DeKemper won the raffle. AJ introduced Lt Col (Ret) Bill DeKemper with the Prescott AFJRROTC Bill explained that the JRROTC is not an ROTC as it is not designed to get kids in the military but its designed to get them ready for life. There is no military requirement and only 5 % go into the military. JRROTC consists of the following components: academic, athletic, leadership skills, making good choices, speaking skills, mastering job resumes & interviews. The program is sponsored by the Air Force and there are 3-4k around the country. Callie was introduced. She is a Junior and will be a pilot soon. She started the program 3 years ago and is a Commander. She is looking at going into the AF Academy and is currently working on the extenuating application process. |
