Yavapai College's Career and Technical Education Center Tour
Written by Bud Ackerman
Thank you to Richard Hernandez for a fantastic tour of the Yavapai College's Career and Technical Education Center (C.T.E.C.)
After last Wednesday’s regular meeting 12 members were treated to an outstanding tour by Sunup President Richard Hernandez of the Yavapai College CTEC center next to the Prescott airport. Aside from our camaraderie and fun at meetings Sunup Rotary gives us a glimpse of the hidden treasures we have in our community.
Part of Rich’s responsibility at the college is overseeing and putting in place valuable and relevant technical programs that provide immediate high paying opportunities. Some include areas like diesel engine maintenance, home construction including the new 3D printing method. Also, 3D printing used for manufacturing. Air traffic control and pilot training. How about surveying with drones and converting aerial photos to 3D topographical maps. There is even one of the few in the world gun smithing classes that teaches works of art sought by students worldwide. We are lucky to have one of the very few tech colleges like this in the nation.
We will have more on-site tours in the future. Don’t miss the next one!
This state of the art facility offers hands on training in Animals, Autos, Aviation, Construction, Fire Science, Construction, Culinary Arts, 3D printing, Welding, and Visual Arts among many others. CTEC is located at 220 Ruger Road near the Prescott Airport. To learn more go to: yc.edu
Celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Prescott on October 1st and 2nd this year!
It’s a 1920s theme evening, black tie optional. We will start with happy hour and dance lessons. We’ll follow that with a special 4-course gala dinner, specially designed by the Hassayampa Inn chef. There will be dancing, a silent auction, a historical perspective of Rotary and we are even going to auction off a piece of Prescott history.
October 1: Community Sing – 5pm on the courthouse steps
This is our actual charter date, so the club is officially 100 years old on Friday. We’ll gather at the courthouse, and because we are a club of song, we’ll host a community sing-along with special guests.

President's Message
Richard Hernandez
Hello Sunupians,
I hope you all had a great week. Well our first “corporate tour” was a huge success. The tour of Yavapai College’s CTEC campus was well received by both our members and the Frontier club. I hope to do more tours in the future. As well as more collaborative events with the other two clubs in the quad cities.
I’ll keep this one short. Don’t forget our members who are dealing with a host of medical issues. Pick up the phone, give ‘‘em a call. I know they would appreciate it
