Thank you Guest Speaker Dan Palm
Educator & Public Speaker Dan Palm serves as the Associate Vice President for Global Affairs at the University of Arizona. He was born and raised in Northern Arizona and currently resides in Tucson, Arizona with his wife and two sons. Dan holds an M.A. in Leading Innovation and Change from York St. John University, York, England and a B.A. in History from Northern Arizona University. He is a speaker of Mandarin Chinese and lived four years in Beijing, China, two of which he engaged in research and study at Beijing International Studies University.
Dan gave an enlightening and comprehensive presentation titled: "What's the World to do about Communist Capitalists?"
Having lived and studied in China and as a speaker of Mandarin Chinese, Dan shared of the rising global influence of China. His insights captured the magnitude of the investments being made by China to overtake the U.S. as an economic, educational, military and research powerhouse.
From Dan's experience, China’s view of the world is that we’ve entered a new kind of “Cold War” with the U.S. with the goal of displacing U.S. primacy in Asia and the globe.
Suggestions on how the United States can respond to this growing challenge include:
- Stand up for Democratic Principles Globally
- Defend Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Liberty and Justice for all, and Universal Human Rights
- Invest in U.S. Education & Research
- Strengthen Foreign Influence Laws to prevent foreign proxies from influencing our system
- Speak against acts of interference, censorship, and harassment
- Continue to compete for global and economic influence
- Build U.S. Military and alliance to meet sustained challenge
