What's Happening

Thank you to Speaker Art Harrington

Written by Jane Anne Shimizu. Edited by Lisa DeLeo. Biography excerpt taken from www.rotary5495.org

Sunupian Art Harrington has been a Rotarian since 1963, and his wife Sharon since 1988, with both functioning in many different leadership capacities. Art has served as a District Governor, GSE Team Leader to India, International Training Leader and Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator. He currently is the District Rotary Youth Services Chair, and he continues to be an instructor for the Arizona Rotary Leadership Academy and the Rotary Leadership Institute. He is a Rotarian Advisor to several Interact clubs, and to the Interact District Council. Art has received the Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and Rotary International’s highest honor, the Service Above Self Award. Art and Sharon are members of the Prescott Sunup Rotary Club. (quoted from https://rotary5495.org/)

His presentation encouraged all Rotarians to support the The Rotary Foundation with the ultimate goal of making Prescott Sunup Rotary to become a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club in 2022.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.

The Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) initiative asks every Rotarian to support The Rotary Foundation every year. In addition to contributing to the Annual Fund on a regular basis, members are encouraged to get involved in a Foundation project or program.

Every Rotarian Every Year means that each Rotarian contributes at least $25 to TRF’s annual fund. When every member of a club makes a donation, the club earns a banner celebrating 100% participation. Going up the ladder, when every member of every club contributes, District 5150 gets special recognition too.

Great News!  For donations between $100 and $260, the district will match every dollar you give with recognition points that help you earn a Paul Harris Fellowship, one of Rotary’s most important honors.

Art's presentation reminds us that: "Your Rotary Foundation contributions are meeting needs and changing lives our contributions, together with the collective leadership and expertise of our 1.2 million members, are helping us tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges — locally and globally — reaching out to communities who are most in need."

Camp Wamatochick Service Project Saturday 1/22/22

Written by Art Harrington

The winterizing of Cabin 12 at Camp Wamatochick so it can be used year-around is underway.

Join Prescott Sunup Rotary workday on Saturday, January 22nd assembling new steel bunks and painting.

If you'd like to work with us on this project, please email Art Harrington at (arthts@msn.com).

RYLA

It's that time of year again when Rotarians from the three Prescott Area Rotary clubs are asked to assist with the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program.

Please volunteer your pickup or large SUV at RYLA (or as a driver of someone else's pickup/SUV) on the morning of January 15 or 16, 2022 (Sat or Sun) to transport delegates from the main camp area through the woods to the high Ropes course (about a half mile). 2.5-hour shifts are available: 7:00-9:30 and/or 9:30-noon.

Camp Pine Rock - right here in Prescott, will again be the site for RYLA, which will again be held over the Martin Luther King weekend, Friday to Monday, January 14-17, 2022. Individual members from the clubs in our Area have traditionally provided this simple, yet integral service for the RYLA delegates.

Here's how to get involved:

1. Contact noel.j.desousa.gmail.com@clubrunner.email indicating that you would like to serve and your day and time preference. Having your own pickup or LARGE SUV is recommended, but we have a couple available for you to drive if needed.

2. Register as a volunteer at RYLA 5495pinerock.org  You will be required to upload a picture of yourself in the registration form and a copy of your Covid vaccination card within the Health form. An email acknowledging your successful registration will immediately be sent to you.

3. Within a few days you will receive an additional email asking that you fill out a background check form. This is required for all RYLA volunteers every year.  Among other information, you will need to fill in your Social Security number on the form.

Thank you for providing this service to our Rotary community and our RYLA delegates.

Dear club and district leaders:

What would it mean for Rotary if we were the first choice for people seeking both a greater sense of purpose and the person-to-person involvement the digital realm can’t provide?

When we think beyond traditional membership or partnership opportunities, we demonstrate that positive change starts with welcoming the talents and ideas of others.

Join us for the third webinar in our Engaging Members + Delivering Value series, Expanding our Reach. Register now for one of the sessions using the hyperlinks—this is also where you can learn about the speakers and submit your questions. A recording will be available to everyone who registers. Please note these sessions will only be offered in English.

REGISTER NOW: Thursday 13 January 11:00 (UTC-6). See the time in a city near you.

REGISTER NOW: Thursday 13 January 18:00 (UTC-6). See the time in a city near you.

During this webinar we will speak to participants who are sharing our values with new audiences, creating new ways to bring people together to experience the power of Rotary, and proving we are an organization that’s inclusive, engaging, compassionate, and ambitious.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts and questions.

Sincerely,
The Membership Development Team

President's Message
Richard Hernandez
member photo
Hello Sunupians,

It was good to see everyone Wednesday after a two week break!

I was also pleased to see everyone ready to start a new year of service before self. I want to use this short message to again ask that we all step up and help with the “Jazz from the Heart” fundraiser. At the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious, we can’t do what we do without funding and while I absolutely appreciate our members giving, but that itself that is not enough.

Please reach out to Jane Anne Shimizu  (jashimizu@gunsite.com) and get involved.

See you Wednesday,

Richard
