Chief Scott Freitag currently serves as the Fire Chief for the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority.  He began his emergency services career in 1993 as an EMT and Emergency Medical Dispatcher in St. Louis, MO. He attained his paramedic certification in 1994, and left a private EMS service for the St. Charles Fire Department in 1995.

After 10 years with the City of St. Charles, he accepted a position as Assistant Chief of Operation for the Cottleville Fire Protection District where he served for 8 years.

Freitag accepted the position of Fire Chief with the Chino Valley Arizona Fire District in August of 2013. In July of 2014, he became the Chief of the Central Yavapai Fire District as well as Chino Valley Fire District under a Joint Management Agreement between the two agencies.

As of July 1, 2016 the two organizations were blended to become the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority.

In addition to his emergency services career, Chief Freitag has served as an adjunct professor for Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO as well as Northern Arizona University.

He has earned his Associate Degree in Fire Science, a Bachelor Degree in Mass Communications and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Freitag has completed the Executive Fire Officer Program (EFOP) through the National Fire Academy, and has earned his Chief Fire Officer (CFO) certification through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He holds numerous other fire service certifications through both State and Federal agencies.

Following his program,  Fire Chief Scott Freitag and Captain Eric Merrill offered us a tour of their training facility located at 8603 E Eastridge Drive in Prescott Valley.  The training academy is a very comprehensive, first class, facility that serves as a training venue for firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMTs.  It is most always busy with training classes for the various groups.

We have finally established a great linkage with our Rotaract club at ERAU.  We had three members help with the work project at Camp Wamatochick Sunday: DeZsa Dumay, President of the Silverwings Rotaract Club and members Dakota Ross and Rachel Sowyrda.

I attended their meeting Sunday evening. At their meeting I connected with their program/project chairperson and found that they have two projects coming up shortly. Join us in supporting Rotaract!

Rotarians,

I wanted to share some sad but, in many ways, happy news. If you have not already heard, Donna and Ray Jacobs have decided to spend a little more time enjoying retirement. They intend to travel and spend more time with family. This is sad for me because they are true Rotarians who will be very much missed at Sunup. Donna has been a respected voice on our board and an active member in all that is Sunup. Ray was always available when we needed help.

Donna, Ray, we wish you both safe travels and thank you for all you have done and shared with us.

You know where we’ll be on Wednesday mornings. Stop by when you can.

I also want to thank the many who helped make our charity event, Jazz from the Heart, a huge success!

Everyone from the staff at Hassayampa, Bob and his fellow musicians, our sponsors, everyone who contributed, and of course all of the Rotarians who worked day and night.

What an outpouring of love and support for our community.

Many will benefit from your generosity and hard work!

God Bless,

Richard Hernandez
