Shootout at Gunsite
Sunup Rotary members were treated to an exciting and informative day after our breakfast meeting last Wednesday. Traveling up Hwy 89 to Paulden we gathered in a classroom at Gunsite Academy headquarters. Gunsite is located on a sprawling 2800 acres encompassing 20 shooting ranges. The first part of the morning was spent with the COO Ken Campbell explaining how to safely handle pistols around the shooting range. Then it was out to the range where we had the opportunity to try out 9mm and 45cal pistols with expert instructors at our side. Greg Barstad brought his shot gun that many of us tried out. After lunch Jane Anne Shimizu gave us a tour of the grounds. Many thanks to Jane Anne and Val for setting this up.
Meeting Highlights April 11
Little League Open Day Crew:  A nice crew of Mike's open day LL cookout smiled for the camera.
Great Extractions:   Gus Bergman was Sarge and enlisted fellow Sgt. Clent Walker to tote the spittoon.  Lots of members made news and paid and a lot of good happy bucks.  Art Harrington celebrated his birthday by winning the pot.
Speaker Last Week:  Tim Carter, chair of Yavapai County Education, discussed the teacher of the year.  Then, he fielded a lot of questions on the unbalance in the teacher and facility funding.  He does feel Gov.Duecy is working for increasing K-12 funding against his no tax stance when he ran for governor.
Double Down Casino Night is less than a month away. Sell your tickets and make our Sunup fundraiser a big success!!

Greetings, My Fellow “Wicked Good Sunupians!”
Welcome to a Blustery Spring! Pretty amazing winds the past few days, and how about those winter-like temps? Rather than entertain you this week with random, Rotarian thoughts this week, I will share the following information and questions to reflect on:  On Friday, I attended an informal meeting with presidents/representatives of other area clubs and Nancy Van Pelt our DG and Noel DeSousa our ADG (Soon to be Executive DG) at my favorite spot-The Wild Iris coffee shop.  Nancy was checking in with us as we are drawing closer to the end of our tenure and we had some good discussion.
One interesting point raised was the perspective that other clubs here and in the District are working hard at trying to attract new members. Many of them are struggling to identify what their club and Rotary is all about as times have changed?
So, do we really know, and all agree on, what Sunup is all about in the current time? What is our elevator speech when explaining Sunup?
Good thing to think about. It’s really what the Future of Sunup Committee was put together for.
The challenge is to consider: What is our identity within Rotary and in our community? Where do we want to take the club in terms of that identity? And what are our opportunities to make it happen?
I leave you to ponder these questions and perhaps prepare to move ahead with Neal in the not too distant future.
‘Till Wednesday,
Peace Friends
