Paul Kirchgraber, The Prescott Unified School District (PUSD) Education Foundation visited this week.
Quoted from www.signalsaz.com/ By Staff | on February 18, 2021 "For more than 25 years Kirchgraber has created and guided teams focused on fundraising, non-profit management, service delivery, and program development. He most recently served as the executive director of the Yavapai College Foundation. During his ten-year service, he helped grow the foundation’s endowment to $16 million, making it the largest endowment of its kind among individual community colleges in Arizona.
The Foundation links community and alumni resources – time, money, services, and expertise – with the needs of our school to enhance and complement the educational mission of PUSD. It builds broad-based support for educational excellence, increases the visibility and value of our schools, and promotes the understanding that everyone in the community is responsible for creating a quality educational system. The Foundation is governed by an independent volunteer board of directors comprised of business and community leaders, parents, and alumni who donate their time and money to support and run The Foundation."
Teachers spend a lot of money from their own pocket to provide supplies for their classrooms. The Innovative Grant Program is something teachers look forward to as a way to bring new ideas to their classrooms. The Teachers' Closet is another program that allows teachers to come and shop for free; providing supplies especially for students who don't have opportunities to bring their own supplies.
PUSD has a high retention rate of Teachers and is also proud of their Rising Stars Program, where Guidance Counselors and Teachers nominate students who have overcome incredible obstacles and provides them with opportunities for trade school or college.
Paul shared a video of a science class and the devices that were provided from the grant. It is very interesting how students use their cellphones during a science lesson to help learn. These kinds of "Sensory Classrooms" in Prescott Schools help teachers and students who need extra special attention.
"Innovative education grants are designed to encourage, facilitate, recognize, and reward innovative and creative instructional approaches to the accomplishment of program objectives."
