Camp Wamatochick Service Project Update

Written by Art Harrington

The winterizing of Cabin 12 at Camp Wamatochick so it can be used year-around is underway.

Join Prescott Sunup Rotary workday on Saturday, January 22nd assembling new steel bunks and painting.

If you'd like to work with us on this project, please email Art Harrington at (arthts@msn.com).

Considerable progress was made on our first work day winterization project at Camp Wamatochick.

In spite of the 21-degree frigid weather, our 6-member work crew: Matt Greenlee, Jim Huffman, Steve Sample, Cisco Ortiz, Bud Ackerman and Art Harrington, accomplished a lot and worked well under Crew Chief Matt's experienced leadership.

The windows are all installed and most of the electrical work has been finished.  Extensive caulking sealed all of the existing cracks and other openings in the cabin walls.  Additional framing and reinforcing strengthened the structure.  Foam insulation sheets were cut and tacked in place on the ceiling and walls.  Then the crew began the toughest work of applying the sheetrock on the ceiling.

Camp Manager Mike Strait, along with his maintenance assistant Paul, will carry on from where our crew left off.

Our thanks to those who served on this work crew and to Roxanne and Mike Strait for providing a delicious pizza lunch for our workers.

Our next Camp Cabin Workday is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd.  Join us!

Camp Manager Mike Strait, Jim Huffman, Crew Chief Matt Greenlee and Steve Sample planning for the next sheet of ceiling insulation.

Mike Strait holds up a sheet of foam ceiling insulation as Jim HuffmanSteve Sample and Matt Greenlee tack it into place.

Cisco Ortiz and Bud Ackerman work as a team to cut and install insulation sheets on the back wall of the cabin.

Interact District 5495 Blood Drive

Written by Art Harrington

Our Prescott High Interact was the first club in our district to sign up to help make our first-ever Interact Virtual Blood Drive a success.

The club's flyer includes both a link and a QR code to use to sign up to donate blood to help save lives during the holidays.

By using that link or code to pledge blood and schedule an appointment at one of the dates and locations in this area, credit is given to our PHS Interact Club.

The Interact club which recruits the most donors before January 7th will receive free registration for all of its members to our Interact District Conference at Centennial High School in Peoria on February 26th.  Help make a difference!

RYLA

It's that time of year again when Rotarians from the three Prescott Area Rotary clubs are asked to assist with the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program.

Please volunteer your pickup or large SUV at RYLA (or as a driver of someone else's pickup/SUV) on the morning of January 15 or 16, 2022 (Sat or Sun) to transport delegates from the main camp area through the woods to the high Ropes course (about a half mile). 2.5-hour shifts are available: 7:00-9:30 and/or 9:30-noon.

Camp Pine Rock - right here in Prescott, will again be the site for RYLA, which will again be held over the Martin Luther King weekend, Friday to Monday, January 14-17, 2022. Individual members from the clubs in our Area have traditionally provided this simple, yet integral service for the RYLA delegates.

Here's how to get involved:

1. Contact noel.j.desousa.gmail.com@clubrunner.email indicating that you would like to serve and your day and time preference. Having your own pickup or LARGE SUV is recommended, but we have a couple available for you to drive if needed.

2. Register as a volunteer at RYLA 5495pinerock.org  You will be required to upload a picture of yourself in the registration form and a copy of your Covid vaccination card within the Health form. An email acknowledging your successful registration will immediately be sent to you.

3. Within a few days you will receive an additional email asking that you fill out a background check form. This is required for all RYLA volunteers every year.  Among other information, you will need to fill in your Social Security number on the form.

Thank you for providing this service to our Rotary community and our RYLA delegates.

Fellow Sunupians,

What as great evening we had at the Christmas Party! It was an awesome time of friendship and good times.

We missed everyone who couldn't attend,  but we lifted our glasses to all Rotarians past, present, and future.

Tony, I hope we made you proud.

I wanted to say thank you to all those who made the evening possible.  You know who you are!

And a special thanks to Bob Shimizu for his smooth licks.

Well, we are approaching 2022 and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next year.

See you all Wednesday for our last 2021 meeting.

Have a blessed day,
