Thank you to Dr. Laura Vanderberg for a festive St. Patrick's Day Trivia PresentationEdited by Lisa DeLeo Dr. Laura Vanderberg's trivia included fun facts like: Patrick's Day celebrates the life of Saint Patrick—the patron saint of Ireland. This influential missionary has been credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland and for chasing all of the snakes out of Ireland. St. Patrick's Day takes place on March 17 each year because his death is believed to have been on March 17, 461. He was actually born in Britain. Why are green shamrocks introduced around St. Patrick’s Day? St. Patrick was said to have used the three-leaf clover to demonstrate the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) to potential converts. Which U.S. city turns the river that runs through it green? CHICAGO - which at one time had America's fourth largest Irish population, after New York, Philadelphia and Boston. World Water Day, held on March 22nd every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of fresh water. On 22 March, Rotary will join the global celebration of World Water Day and its annual theme of “Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible.” Tens of thousands of people will raise the visibility of how this vital resource must be protected from pollution and over extraction, managed sustainably, and reflected in sustainable development policymaking. But what does this mean to Rotary? Why should Rotary members care about groundwater? And what can Rotarians and Rotaractors do about groundwater through their service and projects? World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6: Water and Sanitation for all by 2030. Gain ideas at worldwaterday.org and share your efforts by using the hashtag #WorldWaterDay.
