Prescott Sunup had the honor of awarding a Paul Harris Fellow Cathleen Cherry, Interact Club Advisor Prescott High School for her exemplary service.
A supporter of The Rotary Foundation donated $1,000 to our Rotary Foundation, and asked our club to select a person we feel is particularly worthy of being honored by being made a Paul Harris Fellow. The unanimous consensus of our Rotary Foundation Committee and our club’s Board of Directors was that this special PHF Award should be made to Cathleen Cherry, the incredible Faculty Advisor to our Prescott High School Interact Club, which our Rotary club proudly sponsors.
After a dozen years of being inactive, we recruited Cathleen Cherry to help us reactivate that Interact club. For the past three years, she has done an amazing job of coaching and bringing back to life that club, which had not existed for so many years. The club now has 30 members, and has become a dynamic, leading, award-winning club in our thriving Interact District, which I also Chair.
Cathleen is a Fullbright Scholar, and is recognized and respected as one of Prescott High’s top teachers. She will also be serving as one of the Adult Advisors to our Interact Ambassadors to Kenya team this summer. It is our privilege to honor this truly remarkable woman, who is so committed to teaching and coaching our youth here in Prescott.
Medallion generously donated by Chuck & Betty LeMenager of Prescott, AZ former members of the Ramona, CA Rotary Club.

This year's Mexico-USA Friendship and Global Grants Conference was held virtual from February 4-6. Art Harrington and Jerry Hulm attended the virtual meetings where we were joined by over 100 other Rotarians from the two Arizona Rotary Districts and two Mexican Rotary Districts. The Sunup International Service committee was allocated $4,000 to pledge to projects. During the conference, there were 11 projects that were presented. For Sunup Rotary Club, we have pledged $1,000 each to the following four projects:
- HIV/AIDS Prevention in Kenya - sponsored by the Tucson Sunrise Club in D5500
- Thermal Infant Incubators for Low Income Hospital - sponsored by the Tehuacan Manatiales Rotary Club in D4185
- Musical Band Equipment -0 sponsored by the Cuantla 2no Centenario Club in D4185
- Ayotla Life Nature - sponsored by the Zacatlan club in D4185
The first three projects were fully funded during the conference and will now be submitted to Rotary International for project approval.
The Ayotla Life Nature project fell a little short of full funding, but the project sponsors will either scale back the project to meet the pledges that were made or get additional funding from local clubs. Once they do that, this project will also be submitted to Rotary International for approval.
For any projects that do get Rotary International approval, we will provide some more information to the club on those projects. Rotary International approval can take several weeks so look for an update later this Spring.
