The Collective Sargent generated a lot of $5 and $10 contributions in honor of Jerry Fohrman's attendence today. Glenn Hammond was sad that college football was canceled and Greg Raskin was happy he sold their house but sad they were temporarily moving in with inlaws. The Jacob's were happy to be traveling back to Iowa next week. Jerry Fohrman topped it all off with a $100 contribution expressing his gratitude for all the support from Sunup members and the care he received from YRMC and their medical staff.
John Stewart introduced our speaker and new member John Scholl who is currently Superintendent of Chino Valley Unified School District. Stewart related that the Chino Valley Rotary Club was founded by Sunup and John was the founding president. John reviewed the district history from “The Farms” in 1918 to the current district of four schools including Territorial Early Childhood Center, Del Rio, Heritage Middle School, and Chino Valley High School with a enrollment last year of 2200 students. He also reviewed the district programs, budgetary items, and the challenges facing the district. Chino Valley SD has a regular payroll of 250 employees that generates around $6,000,000 in salaries. Some of the great positives about Chino Valley USD are the 84% graduation rate, award winning musical programs, championship boys and girls athletics, award winning CTE programs, and dual enrollment opportunities. Chino Valley started the 20-21 school year August 10th under the Substantial Community Spread CDC guidelines which means all at home instruction. John expects movement of benchmark parameters into the Moderate Community Spread range in the near future which will allow the district to provide a hybrid program of at home and in person instruction. |
