Thank You Speaker Sean Stevens Americorps V.I.S.T.A. Team Leader Quoted from www.arizonaserve.org, Sean's presentation, A.J. Sheridan's introduction and Edited by Lisa DeLeo Sean Stevens is the Prescott V.I.S.T.A. Team Leader and volunteer coordinator for Arizona Serve's / V.I.S.T.A of Prescott College. Americorps is a U.S. Government program that connects volunteers to community service projects. V.I.S.T.A. stands for Volunteers in Service to America. This AmeriCorps program has been lifting Americans out of poverty nationwide since 1965. The Arizona Serve VISTA team currently includes 11 V.I.S.T.A. members serving in Prescott and 19 V.I.S.T.A. members serving in Tucson. Arizona Serve's story began in 2006 when several Yavapai County agencies saw a gap in services, so they brought together a small team of AmeriCorps V.I.S.T.A. members to fight poverty in the region. Several members chose to stay after their service year to develop the Yavapai County V.I.S.T.A. Project. In 2009, we became Serve Yavapai and a program of Prescott College, increasing in scope and size to 25 VISTA members." "Arizona Serve's Mission is to connect passionate people with transformative community projects to fight poverty. Their vision is that communities and the individuals who serve them thrive when every person contributes to a sustainable and just existence." Arizona Serve has a wide volunteer network in the Quad City area and work to pull them together along with other volunteer groups for big projects. They work with US Vets for Veterans Day, Martin Luther King day committee, and Stepping Stones among others to accomplish projects. They recruit year round through Newspapers, Email chains, Community Service events and other community outreach venues such as radio spots This is a great experience/avenue for college graduates, retirees, or people with a mid-life crisis who are looking for new directions and ways to serve their communities. Arizona Serve would like to partner with Rotary Clubs for mutual projects. Sean enjoys solving problems and supporting efforts that tangibly improve the lives and experiences of his fellow man. He views it as a privilege to work to meaningfully better the world. He brings to the table his years of coaching and mentoring experience as well as his prior work with the Prescott Unified School District's volunteer teams.
