Thought for the day from Dan Beyer: When someone says it’s not about the money, it’s the principal, it’s about the money.
Announced Guests: Rotarians Jim and Judy Wilson. Sgt. At Arms Greg Raskin fined Terry for misspelling Clents name, Eric for billing twice in one week, Par for asking to be left alone, Jim Wilson so he will fit in and John Stewart for giving Sgt. Greg a shirt. Many Happy Bucks, Josh carried the spittoon and Jane Anne won the pot.
Speaker: Jerry Fohrman introduced Fritzi Mavis, director of People Who Care, an organization with 373 volunteers, who in 2018 worked 17,325 hours and drove 105,370 miles assisting people (clients) who are temporarily or permanently unable to perform tasks such as driving, grocery shopping or dealing with mail or complicated paperwork. In 2018 403 clients were assisted by volunteers, sometimes partnering with family members unable to help on their own and tailor care to the clients needs, interacting to prevent social isolation with bi-weekly visits when possible and establish a long term relationship and ensure a safe, hazard free environment. Flashlights, fire extinguishers and 911 alert devices are provided to lower income individuals. Recommendations of potential clients come from Doctors, Clergy and YRMC case workers and reviewed by people Who Care staff and matched with suitable volunteers. Rigorous back ground checks are performed on all volunteers to ensure the safety of all concerned. Necessary liability insurance is provided to all volunteers by People Who Care.
President's Message
Jerry Fohrman
Good Morning Sunupians,
As I sit at the keyboard to write this message I can't help but reflect on the impact in the community that we Rotarian's aspire to make. It has been brought to my attention that we could always use a few more hands on projects to keep us busy. With that in mind, I will ask all of you to help our community services committee, by bringing to them suggestions for projects you might know of that need Rotary's attention. Thank you in advance for all of your help.
