Next Meeting's Program: Francisco Ortiz y Davis,  Director of Career & Technical Education "Prescott High School Update"

What's Happening

Thank You Speaker Francisco Ortiz y Davis, Director of Career & Technical Education at Prescott High School

Written by Laura Vanderberg and quoted from  Prescott High School website.

Francisco is the Director of Career & Technical Education at Prescott High School. Career and Technical Education (CTE) are courses that provide an academic foundation with hands-on skills lab experience.
These courses provide great skills that can translate to future career pathways and college courses of study.
Today’s cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares youth for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers. CTE is at the forefront of preparing students to be “college-ready and career-ready.”
Career & Technical Education equips students with:
  • Core academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations in order to function in the workplace and in routine daily activities.
  • Employability skills (such as critical thinking and responsibility) that are essential in any career area.
  • Job-specific, technical skills related to a specific career pathway
Prescott High School's vision is to ensure a dynamic workforce by fully developing every student’s career and academic potential by preparing PHS students for workforce success and continuous learning.
If you are a business owner, or know someone who could benefit from hosting internships, paid or not, where students can actually experience being in a work environment please contact Francisco at:

Remembering Tony Shaw

The memorial gathering for Tony Shaw has been changed due to the Crooks Fire.

Friends of Prescott Library Opportunity

The Friends of the Prescott Public Library is pleased to begin seeking ideas from the community about what they would like to see in a future branch library.  You are invited to a special meeting that seeks input from community members with expertise and interest in early childhood education:
Thursday, May 12, 4-5 pm
Founders Suite at Prescott Public Library
We hope that you will attend and forward this invitation to other members of the early childhood education community who might be interested.
Additionally, two public meetings will be held in the Founders Suite on the 1st floor of Prescott Public Library at 215 E. Goodwin St. in Prescott, with two opportunities to participate:
Wednesday, May 11, 1-2 pm OR
Thursday, May 12, 5:30-6:30 pm
Founders Suite at Prescott Public Library
With the help of McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, an experienced group in library space planning, Friends of Prescott Public Library will gather community input at meetings in May. McMillan Pazdan Smith will then compile information and use their expertise to create a report that includes size, spaces, and features necessary to create the kind of branch library the community needs as Prescott grows. Their report will also include projected budgets for hard and soft costs.
In 2020, Luanne Leeson, a longtime library supporter, left a bequest of nearly $5 million to the Friends of the Prescott Public Library for the construction of a new library. With projected population growth in the north Prescott area, there is a clear need for library services in that part of the city. The City of Prescott has also expressed interest in a library that incorporates an environmental learning center in the Granite Dells. The library planning study will include research and input from the community about an environmental learning center as a component of a new library building.
The report will be shared with the City of Prescott and the Friends will work with the City to determine the best way that the available Friends funds can be applied to the construction of a branch library. The City of Prescott will be the owners of any completed branch library and responsible for the professional staffing and operation.
Although this is just the first step in a long process, the Friends of the Library are excited to help by providing a thorough analysis of the community need and requirements for a branch library and environmental learning center.
For questions about the upcoming community meetings, please contact Prescott Public Library at 928.777.1500. For information about the Friends of the Prescott Public Library, visit .

During the month of May, the Prescott Valley Ace Hardware (7211 E 1st St, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314)  is sponsoring a "Round-Up" to help raise funds to send our Interact Ambassadors team to Kenya this summer.  Anyone shopping there simply has them "roundup" their purchase to the next dollar, with those extra cents helping to send our team in Kenya.

Looking Ahead:

“Rotary Week of Service.” Our efforts to provide assistance continue throughout the year, and we invite you to join us as we conduct community service projects throughout our communities, our state and the world!

District 5495 Annual District Conference at the Prescott Resort & Conference Center

Written by Arthur R. Harrington

Prescott area Rotarians have a golden opportunity to meet more than 300 other Rotarians from around our district, and to hear some inspirational speakers and programs by registering  for and attending our Rotary District Conference.

It is being held at the Prescott Resort & Conference Center on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14.  The cost is $150, including all of the meals.  Don’t miss this great opportunity.  While all of the hotel rooms are sold out, that should not be a problem for those of us who live here in the Prescot area.   We can still register and attend.

It was good to see you all Wednesday. For those of you who could not make it, Cisco was back. This time as our speaker. He shared a lot of info about the high school programs in Career and Technical Education.

Christy also shared what an awesome job everyone did on the food drive and the Veterans Memorial Clean up. I’m so proud to be part of this club. We do great things together.

Lastly, What an honor it was for me to share with the group that Laura Vanderberg has stepped up to be your next president! Look for a club wide email from me with more details soon.

That’s all for now, see you Wednesday.

Richard Hernandez
