Thank you Guest Mark Shelley, Coordinator of "Cycling Without Age"Notes & Photo by Chelsea Sederstrom. Edited by Lisa DeLeo Our speaker this week was Mark Shelley, Coordinator of Cycling Without Age Prescott Chapter. Cycling Without Age is a worldwide movement to give older adults and the disabled the opportunity to feel the wind in their hair, connect with the community, and enjoy building relationships via a "Triobike" piloted by trained volunteer cyclists. The program began in Copenhagen, Denmark and has now spread to 43 countries. The bikes are manufactured in Copenhagen and cost 10k. Prescott's bike was purchased with the help of The City of Prescott, The Yavapai College Police Department, Polara Health, Prescott Mountain Biking Association as well as local bike shops High Gear Bike Shop and Iron Clad Bike Shop for the benefit and care of our residents. This is a free service and he frequents the peavine trail and enjoys this with Assisted Living residents, Memory Care residents, and the oldest guest they have given a ride to is Mark's mom and she was 93 years young. Rides can be scheduled by contacting Mark Shelley at: Mark@cyclingwithoutage.com or calling 602-549-2109 Getting outside is proven to help with depression, physically improves movement, and brings people out of isolation. This is an incredible service that really can transform people out of their everyday routines. The drivers enjoy connecting with the passengers. He will even take you through the drive through in the cart! So fun! You want to ride your own bike along side with the rider and pilots? Come along! It will be really neat! Do you know someone who would benefit from this free service? Give Mark's contact info to whom ever comes to your mind! This is such a wonderful activity and we are all encouraged to support Mark and what he is doing for the community. Would you be a pilot and volunteer? Contact Mark@cyclingwithoutage.com or calling 602-549-2109 Donations are accepted. Right now Mark has one bike and they are saving up for another bike.
