Thank you Susan Jones & Noel DeSousa for their presentation on "Prescott Sister City Connections"Quoted from Noel's Presentation, and Prescott-AZ.Gov and Edited by Lisa DeLeo A sister city organization is a volunteer group of ordinary citizens who, with the support of their local elected officials, form long-term relationships with people and organizations in a city abroad. Sister Cities International was created in 1956 after WWII by President Eisenhower as a "Peace through People" organization that could be the hub of peace and prosperity by creating bonds between people from different cities around the world, so that different cultures could celebrate and appreciate their differences and build partnerships that would lessen the chance of new conflicts. Each sister city organization is independent and pursues the activities and thematic areas that are important to them and their community including municipal, business, trade, educational and cultural exchanges with their sister city. Sister city organizations promote peace through people-to-people relationships—with program offerings varying greatly from basic cultural exchange programs to shared research and development projects between cities with relationships. Prescott has three active Sister City connections, each with its own structure, organization and separate goals and events: - Caborca, Sonora, Mexico.
- Suchitoto, El Salvador.
- Zeitz, Germany.
Our official Sister city name is: "Caborca Committee of the Sister City Association of Prescott" Arizona Sister Cities is an important resource in the negotiations of governments in letting the people themselves give expression of their common desire for friendship, goodwill and cooperation … for a better world for all.
