"Find Your Why" By Club President  Laura Vanderberg

Written by Laura Vanderberg

As part of President’s Choice meetings, Laura facilitated the beginning of "Find Your Why," a process developed by Simon Sinek author and owner of The Optimism Company to help organizations discover their "Why" their purpose or cause, and be able to articulate it clearly.

Successful large organizations such as Apple and Southwest Airlines have developed and articulated their "whys."  It’s from the why that we get to what and how we do things.

Even Rotary International has done this exercise! (See the image above.)

As part of the process, club members shared stories what made them feel most proud to be Sunupians. From those shared stories, the group came up with a list of verbs to describe the actions that club members took in those activities.  To be continued next month when Laura returns as our Speaker!

Articulating Sunup’s why helps us explain to others why people want to be a part of our team, help guide how the Club spends its energy, helps us remember why YOU joined the club to begin with and what you love about it, and helps our peeps find us!

Some actions words that came up in the discussion included: act locally and think globally, youth, clean up, recognize, demonstrate, donate, share, plan, help, facilitate, solicit, organize, initiate, orchestrate, advertise, expand, build, improve, invest and inspire.

Good Things in Small Packages Project

At this week's meeting, we put together gift bags for the teachers of PUSD. The bags hold: $25 gas & food card to either a restaurant or a $25 Walmart card. We also included bag of caramels and thank you cards signed by the members of each table! What a great idea and such a wonderful way to give. Each school will receive two bags.

I just want to acknowledge all the Sunupians that participated in the first President’s Choice meeting.

How fulfilling to put together the inaugural “Good Things in Small Packages” gifts- we’ve only just begun.

And we made some great progress toward identifying our Why.

Thank you all so much!

Make it a great week!
