Thank you Suzie Roth for presenting on "Bring on the Books"

Quoted from A.J. Sheridan's Introduction and bringonthebooks.info and Edited by Lisa DeLeo

Suzie Roth began her 20 year professional career as a K12 librarian and then transitioned into university libraries. She spent nearly 15 years at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University as a Research & Instruction Librarian and has been in her current position as the Yavapai County School Librarian since 2020.

As the County School Librarian, Suzie works with all K12 school library staff providing customized support.  It is different in each school, but often includes teaching about day-to-day library operations, collection analysis and collection development among other things.

She has begun to bring new books into the aged school collections entitled:  “Bring on the Books” (bringonthebooks.info) It is a unique way for our communities to contribute to school library collections.

Just the facts:

  • The average publication date of items in Yavapai County school library collections is 1993.
  • School collections are grossly outdated.
  • For some kids their school library is the only place they have an opportunity to check out books.
  • Average checkouts of popular books are 300+ and need replaced.
  • School libraries have little to no budget for books or other materials.

Select a school. Order a book.

IT'S THAT EASY!!

All orders will be sent to the Yavapai County Free Library District office for processing and then delivered to the school. Part of the processing includes a book plate with the donor's name provided on your gift receipt that comes with the books.

Thank you for your support!!

Best regards,
Suzie Roth, MLS

New Pay-As-You-Go Breakfast Plan

Thank you everyone who has responded about continuing your quarterly breakfast payments.

For all of you not continuing with the quarterly payments, you are opting in to the Pay As You Go plan. Please read on.

To confirm that you want to eat breakfast at a SunUp meeting, Click:  https://www.prescottsunuprotary.org/ and look on the right hand side of the page for the Order Breakfast box.  Click on it and follow the instructions.  If you are using your phone, you'll have to scroll down a little to see the box on the right.

Alternatively, you can search for our club page, or you can type prescottsunuprotary.org into your browser and then click on the Order Breakfast box.

If you want to eat, you must indicate so by Friday, the week before our next meeting.  This has to be done each week.

If you are not eating, you can still log in and decline to eat, but this is not a requirement.  We will still capture attendance as you walk in the door either way.

Warm Regards,

Laura Vanderberg

Cruise-in for Veterans Show & Food Drive

On Saturday, May 14th the Cruise-in for Veterans will be held from 9 AM - 3 PM up at the Gateway Mall. As with the last Cruise-in, it will be located between the old Sears building (now Espire Sports) and Texas Roadhouse.

Rotary will have a canopy set up along with brochures and signs about our club and the other Rotary clubs in Prescott, along with our large Rotary balloon, etc. This event will be great fun for all; lots of cool cars (two show cars representing Sunup), good food and music.

Bring the family and have some fun!

Help is needed, particularly for setting up starting at 6 AM Saturday and for take down at 3 PM. During the day, we will want volunteers to be at our booth (canopy). The other Rotary Clubs in Prescott want to participate, but we do not have particulars on what they would volunteer to do thus far.

Please let me know if you can help:

Setup at 6 AM: Jim Huffman, Jerry Fohrman, other volunteers needed

During the event: volunteers needed at our booth from 9AM - 3PM

Takedown at 3 PM: Jim Huffman, Jerry Fohrman, other volunteers needed
