We were sorry that JoAnna Sweeney, our planned speaker from the Beyond Borders program was unable to be with us, due to her needing to prioritize working with one of the youth who was experiencing a crisis at the time. However, her husband and another representative from the program shared with us that the mission of the program is to help autistic youth, as well as youth with other disabilities to reach their full potential. In particular, this programs is working with these youth to plan and carry out service projects which help others. They are currently exploring how they might be able to collaborate with our Rotary club on a project. We will look forward to hearing more about this in the future.

Who can you help to have a Great Day today, by spreading the Joy of Rotary?
CLUB SERVICE

Since Vicki Mickel was sick, and unable to receive her “Unsung Hero Award” a week ago, President Russ Davis made certain she received her award last Wednesday, when she was back on her feet, and and able to be back with us. Congratulations again, Vicki! You are appreciated for all that you do.

In conjunction with our Sunup Rotary Chili Cook-Off, Saturday, October 24, is also World Polio Day. We will be selling our Rotary district's Iron Lung Lager Beer, with the proceeds from those sales all going to Rotary's PolioPlus Polio Eradication Initiative. Remember that the Gates Foundation matches whatever we raise, 2-for-1, in order to help purchase the polio vaccines with are saving children's lives around the world.

Emmett Jones made a run over last week to the Mudshark Brewery & Public House in Lake Havasu City, where the Iron Lung Lager Beer is produced, in order to pick up the cases of the beer which our club had ordered for our Chili Cook-Off's observance of World Polio Day.

Emmett thought you might like to see where the beer is actually made. Thanks, Emmett, for making the beer run, and for these great photos!

In last week's newsletter, we included photos and a story about members of our Prescott High School Interact Club picking up, during a heavy rainstorm, mobility equipment which had been donated to their Interact Crutches 4 Africa Project. This is our Interact District's signature international service project, with the donated still-usable mobility devices being shipped to Kenya in December. The equipment collected in this norhern AZ area is temporarily stored in a room above the office at Ponderosa Mini-Storage, which Rotarian Ron Williams permits our Interactors to use for this purpose at no charge. The picture below show the equipment our Interactors have collected so far this year, not counting 3 specialty wheelchairs which are being stored downstairs, since they were too large and heavy to move up the stairs.

OUR INTERACT CLUB IS ASKING FOR YOUR HELP: If you know of any still-usable wheelchairs, walkers or crutches which individuals, families or facilities may be willing to donate to help change the lives of the disabled poor in Kenya, who have no access to such equipment, please let Art Harrington, who serves as the Rotarian Advisor to our PHS Interact Club, know. Pick-up of the equipment can be arranged.
