Beginning with a portion of a video which Ray Carlson, one of our best past club leaders, created to commemorate our club's Rotary Centennial Project at the Sharlot Hall Museum, Club Historian John Stewart took us on a journey down memory lane which highlighted the club's strong commitment to helping youth to become leaders, as well as to both community and international service projects. His interesting presentation grouped his collection of club photos by the successive years since our club's Charter Night in 1981. Both Ray's video and John's PowerPoint have been saved to the club's computer, so they can be utilized as part of our club's New Member Orientation, which PE Christy Manning is planning to develop. Thank you John, for a very enlightening and inspiring presentation!

Rotary's General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer
Rotary’s general secretary and executive team oversee a staff of more than 800, who serve Rotary members from our world headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA, and seven international offices. The general secretary is a member of the Rotary International Board of Directors and The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees.
John Hewko has served as Rotary International’s general secretary and chief executive officer since 2011. A charter member of the Rotary Club of Kyiv, Ukraine, Hewko lives out Rotary’s mission, whether inside or outside the office. He’s immunized children against polio in India, represented Rotary at the World Economic Forum, and bicycled 104 miles (167 km) with Rotary members in Arizona, USA, to help raise over $50 million for polio eradication. "It’s an honor to go the extra mile in serving this great organization. I see Rotary as the original social network formed to exchange ideas and resources so we can transform lives. We’re a bold NGO that believed it could end a disease, and we’ve stuck to the cause for over three decades. That thought inspires me every morning."
CLUB SERVICE
It was so good to have Tony Terrasi back with us at Wednesday's meeting! We miss him!
Past President Clent Walker was recently "rocked" by President Laura, in appreciation for his solid rock leadership and service to our club. Clent currently manages our club's website, among other duties.
President Laura was actually in absentia at last week's meeting, having hurriedly called Christy to preside at the meeting. THE REASON: It was her wedding anniversary, and hubby Steve was treating her to a surprise hot air balloon ride. We are not sure if that elevated experience will improved her opening-the-meeting jokes, but we shall see . . .
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Todd Clancy represented Sunup Rotary at the annual P.AS.S Appreciation Barbecue.
Prescott Area Shelter & Services expressed their gratitude to Sunup Rotary, as well as the other donors & volunteers, at their annual appreciation cookout at Goldwater Lake last Wednesday. Since 2016, Sunup Rotary has provided the women/family shelter with a monthly hot meal, as well as assisting them with furniture, games and clothes, and renovating the outside picnic tables. Not to mention answering an emergency request by providing three warm ‘cat houses’ for their beloved, not-so-feral cats. This year’s barbecue was especially noteworthy as PASS Executive Director Carmen Frederic received the 2023 ATHENA Leadership Award (seen in photo holding award).

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
Our Prescott Rotary Clubs are hosting, on October 27-29, at Prescott College, the annual USA/Mexico Friendship Conference & Global Grants Exchange. This is an amazing international projects fair, which has been going on now for more than 20 years, where Rotary clubs in our cooperating Arizona and Mexico Rotary districts are given the opportunity to present their proposed projects, for which they are seeking enough other clubs' support, in order to qualify to obtain, from The Rotary Foundation, a matching Global Grant of $15,000 or more. The proposed projects can actually be located anywhere in the world, but they must be sponsored by one of our Arizona or Mexican Rotary clubs, in order to qualify to be presented at this conference. Expect 15-20 different project proposals to be presented on Friday and Saturday at this conference. The conference is hosted in alternating years either in Arizona or in Mexico, and this is our year to host it in our state, and this time in our own community.
You can register to attend the entire conference, including the Sunday brunch at the Hassayampa Inn, when the winning projects will be announced, for $225 — or you can register for just the Global Grant Presentations on Friday & Saturday, including lunch on both days, for only $100, or add the festive Saturday evening event for another $85 — or just attend the brunch on Sunday for $65. You will never have a better, or more convenient, opportunity to observe how this fascinating process of putting together Global Grants Projects actually works.

Our Prescot High Interact Club asks you to remember: A REGISTER ROUNDUP is happening during all of October at Ace Hardware in Prescott Valley to benefit our Interact Crutches 4 Africa and Interact Ambassadors program. Ace Hardware is located at 7211 E. First Street in Prescott Valley. We are grateful to the Long Family, owners of PV Ace Hardware, for this second year they have supported our Interact district's signature international service project in this way.
