Interact Ambassadors to Mexico, Violet Williams, Ciara Coleman and Claire Donovan, along with Ambassadors to Kenya, Jenna Fox and Malia Hirasa, all from the Prescott High Interact Club which our club sponsors, shared with us their excitement about the Rotary humanitarian service missions they will be embarking on this summer in these two countries.

Slides and videos were used to demonstrate the projects these Ambassadors will be working on.  The main goal of the Interact Crutches 4 Africa Project and the Ambassadors Program is to help underserved people with mobility and ambulatory disabilities, particularly in Kenya and central Mexico.  This project has helped thousands of disabled people in a number of countries transform themselves to become higher-functioning people.  Now with mobility, and being able to work, they become more self-sufficient, and they regain their dignity and the respect of others.

What we do to train, coach and financially support these exceptional youth to adopt our Rotary ethics, and to do what we are committed to doing, in putting Service Above Self, certainly must be Rotary’s finest hour.  By investing in them, we are investing in the future leadership of Rotary, our country and the world.

Extra Table and Chairs Needed
With a good member attendance, along with our hosting the PHS Interact Ambassadors and scholarship recipient, Mario Zamora and his family, an additional table and extra chairs were needed for last week's meeting.  It was a good kind of problem to have!  Mario was introduced, expressed his gratitude for our scholarship, and shared with us his plans to attend MIT.

Re-Installation Dinner:  President Laura announced that, since the club officers are remaining in place for next year, a Re-Installation Dinner has been planned for Wednesday evening, June 7, from 5:00-7:00, at Jane Anne's home.  It will be a potluck, with the main course to be provided, with members bringing side dishes to share.  Please RSVP to the notice you will be sent about the dinner, and plan to bring your spouse or significant other.  There will be NO CLUB MEETING that morning. Plan on great food, fellowship and service, including assembling baskets for the Double Down silent auction.

Club Service in Action
Stan Steiner, long-time member of our club who served for many years as our very effective Membership Chair, has been unable for some time to join us for our meetings.  So this past week, Todd Clancy, John Stewart and A.J. Sheridan delivered a happy dose of in-person Prescott Sunup Rotary to Stan, as they together paid him a visit.  Way to go, guys!  Stan, we miss you!  It’s good to see your smiling face!

Looking Ahead

RLI Coming to Prescott this Saturday, May 20

You’ve heard about it, and our district’s Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will prove to be one of the best investments you can make of your time, it you really want to understand more about this incredible organization known as Rotary — beyond what you may experience in a single Rotary club.

RLI is divided into three 1-day levels of sessions, and it will never be easier to climb aboard the RLI Train than when it arrives this Saturday, May 20, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in Building 19 at Yavapai College.  These are interactive, facilitated sessions when you are discussing these key Rotary subjects with members of other Rotary clubs, learning how they successfully do Rotary in their clubs, and how it is done in other parts of the world.  The three RLI levels are offered at least 4 times each year, rotating each time to a different location.

The cost to register for RLI is $60, which includes lunch and the printed materials.  Our Rotary Club reimburses RLI registration fees for any of our members who elect to participate in this 3-tiered enlightening educational adventure. Register now at https://rotary5495.org/page/rli-upcoming-sessions.

Double Down Casino Night Update

Let's sell tickets and get donations

Jane Anne suggests that when people ask for donations they lead with the amazing scholarships we gave last year- $18,000 worth, and that we want to raise $35,000 this year!

Please have donors fill out the form, and get it back to us.  Also- very important!  Jane Anne reminded everyone that you actually have to collect the donation, in whatever form!

The donation or sponsorship isn't complete without the money or item in hand!  We need 16 blackjack table sponsorships at $250 each, and three crap tables at $450 each.

Club members are being asked to bring to our Rotary meeting a nice bottle of wine, spirits or a 12-pack craft beer.  We also need baskets to use help create gift baskets for the silent auction.
