An official flag was formally adopted by Rotary International at the 1929 RI Convention in Dallas, Texas.  The Rotary flag consists of a white field with the official wheel emblem emblazoned in gold in the center of the field.  The four depressed spaces on the rim of the Rotary wheel are colored royal blue.  The name Rotary International printed at the top and bottom depressions on the wheel rim are also gold.  The shaft in the hub and the keyway of the wheel are white.   

 

The first Rotary flag reportedly was flown in Kansas City, Missouri in January 1915.  In 1926, a small Rotary flag was carried over the North Pole by Admiral Richard Byrd, a member of the Rotary Club of Winchester, Virginia.  In 1920, the admiral carried a Rotary flag in his expedition to the South Pole.  During Rotary's centennial year, 2004-05, Rotarian and Rotaract climbers carried flags to the top of Mount McKinley and Mount Everest. 

 

Some Rotary clubs use the official Rotary flag as a banner at club meetings.  In these instances, it is appropriate to print the words Rotary Club above the wheel symbol and the club's name below the emblem.  The Rotary flag is always prominently displayed at RI World Headquarters and at all RI conventions and official events. 

 

Prescott High School Interact had an amazing month! 

 

At the first meeting of the month Interact made fall greeting cards for Las Fuentes Retirement and Assisted Living Home. The Interactors were then able to deliver the cards to those at Las Fuentes and interact with some of the residents! Pictured below is the group who went.

Interact has also been interacting with the community! Some Interactors volunteered at the annual NOCO Harvest Fest in downtown Prescott! Pictured below is vice president Ceiba and member Addie.

 

Interactors also created their committees for the year. There are 4 committees: Service, International Understanding, Fundraising, and Membership. Interactors brainstormed some amazing ideas, including a day to interact with foreign exchange students, having a table at a craft fair, and tabling at sports games for Purple Pinkie (raising funds for Rotary's Polio Eradication Initiative).. 

 

Interact Officers met to pack up the school supplies donated in their Back To School Drive and filled 2 whole suitcases with supplies for children in Kenya. 

 

There is a lot more upcoming after fall break, and our Interactors are so excited!

Hello Rotary Friends:
 
It is with the deepest appreciation for your support that I share these pictures of the new ALEM bus.  You did it!  Rotary Clubs raised enough money for us to purchase a 2015 International Bus.  We found it at an auction in Texas, and it is the perfect size to transport ALEM employees.  It is also big enough to transport their tools and repair parts, making the cost and hazard of towing a trailer no longer necessary.  The bus is already adapted for a wheelchair ramp.  We are waiting for the import papers to be completed, so we can bring it across the border to Cuernavaca.  Once here, it will be lettered with logos of Wellspring Karitas, Rotary, and ALEM/Jazz My Chair.  We expect the bus will be in service by the end of the year! 

 

We announced our critical need for a new bus in May at the annual rotary district conference in Rocky Point, Sonora, Mexico.  (Our 1996 Econoline transit van was constantly breaking down).  We had a donor ready to give $30,000 toward a new bus, if we could find another $30,000 to make it happen.  Rotarians, mostly from Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona, were determined to make this happen.  A special thanks to Ron Williams, who made numerous presentations on our behalf.  Between Rotary clubs and individual Rotarians, we made that $30,000. 

 

You are all amazing.  Please know that your gift has made an incredible impact on the lives of ALEM employees and on their ability to provide wheelchair repairs where the need is so great.

A Boy Scout was walking around a pond when all of a sudden a frog jumped out in front of him and said, “Kiss me and I’ll turn into a beautiful princess!” The boy thought about it for a moment then picked up the frog , put it in his pocket, and continued walking.

 

He heard the frog speak to him from his pocket— ”Why won’t you kiss me?” the frog asked. The Boy Scout replied, “My troop will be much more interested in a talking frog than a princess!”
