Lisa and Celia effectively utilized audience participation, bringing up Marsha and Harlan Teller, to play a story completion game with limited numbers of words.  The results were hilarious, especially with Harlan being restricted to only one word each time it came his turn to add to the story.

With our having to skip an issue of the Sunupian last week, we are playing "catch-up" with this issue.  We appreciated the entertaining program which Lisa and Celia presented to our club two weeks ago, telling us the history of Improv Comedy, and then giving us live demonstrations of how it works.  They also each shared how and why they became involved in this form of theater.  Thanks to both for a very enjoyable program.

 

This past week John Cumiskey enlightened us about the many benefits and uses of laser therapy.  With him was his partner, Cherie Morgan, NP, who together own Integrated Laser Solutions here in Prescott, which offers the required education and training to gain state certification to perform any type of laser therapy.  Our apologies to John, who will be one of our new club members to be inducted this week, for our failing to get any pictures of his interesting presentation. 

 

 

 

Norma Taylor-Roderique served, in 1997-98, as our first woman Rotary District Governor in Arizona in D5510 (which merged with D6590 to become our present District 5495).  Norma was a visionary and a true Rotary pioneer in this state in a number of ways.  I followed her as DG, and we worked together in co-authoring a Rotary leadership course on "Collaboration and Funding to Meet Needs," which I have been teaching in our Arizona Leadership Academy for the past 15 years.  Among other attributes, Norma was the most gifted storyteller I have ever known.   Sadly, she had also been a heavy smoker, which resulted in throat cancer, and the necessary removal of her voice box.  After that, she could only whisper through an artificial one they implanted.  What a tragic loss!  She was an amazingly diverse woman, who had studied to become a concert pianist, but who also co-authored a Psychology textbook.  Her Heather Kinross Village Project in Puebla, Mexico, has become a classic model for sustainable, enabling TRF Global Grants projects. Norma was an inspiration to all.  She and her wonderful wit will be greatly missed.  -- Art Harrington

It was a lot of work, a lot of fun, and the club raised $10,000.  We understand one of the most memorable moments was when Past President Richard Hernandez lost his balance and fell in the lake.  Unfortunately, we were not provided with a picture of that performance to include in this newsletter.

 

John Stewart reminds you that our All-Vets Memorial Cleanup Project is this Saturday morning, May May 18, at 8:00 at the Courthouse Square.  Donuts will be provided.  Come and lend a hand!

 

 

Scholarship Committee Member Clent Walker presented this year's first scholarship check to Toby Chang, of BASIS Prescott.  Toby was recently a co-presenter to our club of the "Better Together" program.  This is the first of three scholarships our Rotary club will be awarding this year to graduating seniors.
