Sunup Rotary Inducts Russ Davis as Club President
Rotary District Governor handed our new Club President Russ Davis the gavel after swearing him in.  Russ briefly shared his vision for the club, and thanked the club for waiting to induct him as President until he and Michelle could take their long-anticipated vacation, following his retirement from the Air Force.

Russ introduced to the club his Club Board for this 2026-27 Rotary year.  They were also sworn in by DG Joe Sweeney

The Installation Dinner, which was held in the former Finn Restaurant at Touchmark, was well-attended, and it was enjoyed by all.  Our thanks to Joe Brown and his Touchmark staff for hosting this event, and for providing the special music.  The buffet-style dinner was delicious!

Christy and Russ helped to present Vicki Mickel with her Paul Harris Fellow Award.  She proudly displays her certificate.

Among those who received Paul Harris recognitions at the dinner were Sarah Van Bourgondien and Joe Brown.  President Russ and the Club Board awarded each of them a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation for their "above-and-beyond" service to the club over the past year.  Missing from the photo are Gus Bergman and A.J. Sheridan, who were also to receive PHF recognitions.

Has being a Rotarian become a part of your DNA yet?  It goes much deeper than simply being a member of a Rotary Club.  Actually becoming a Rotarian usually happens when you personally experience the self-satisfaction that comes from doing something significant for someoene else, that the person had no way of ever doing for himself or herself; but through the power and united strength of a group of Rotarians, you helped make that happen.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE

Todd Clancy, who has served this past year as our International Service Director, has been recuperating in an Indonesian hospital, after being hit by a truck while riding on a motorcycle taxi.  Todd may be temporarily down, but he is definitely not out!  He has sent this announcement he wanted to have printed in the Sunupian:

Registration for the 2026 Mexico-USA Friendship Conference & Global Grants Exchange, to be held in Orizaba, Mexico, has just opened.
Please register if you are able, and share this with your network.  Here is the link:

The world’s smartest man, world’s strongest man, a preacher and a boy scout are all on a plane and it’s about to crash. Problem is there are only three parachutes. So the world’s smartest man grabs a parachute and says, “I’m the world’s smartest man. I can solve many
problems and find solutions for the future of humanity.” He jumps out of the plane.
The world’s strongest man grabs a parachute and says, I’m the world’s strongest man, I am a role model to many, and I can save many lives just inspiring people by my physique.” He jumps out of the plane.
With one parachute remaining, the preacher looks at the boy scout and says, “I’ve led a very good life my son, take the last parachute.  God will take care of me.”
The boy scout looks at the preacher and says, “We both can jump!
The world’s smartest man just jumped out of the plane with my backpack.!

"Growth equals change. If you want to get better, you have to keep changing and improving." — John C. Maxwell

Fellow Rotarians, I am so very excited to be a part of our outstanding leadership team this Rotary Year.  In the short time since the new year started, we have seen so much positive change:
  1. New meeting venue
  2. Breakfast for all
  3. New Installation Dinner venue and format (Thanks Christy and Laura, it was awesome)
  4. New Club Board of Directors
  5. New Rotary Foundation Board
  6. New Paul Harris Fellows
  7. Two New Members!!
My commitment to you this year is that our club will continue to innovate; we will think outside the box, and challenge old paradigms that have limited our impact on the community, region and globe.  We will do this from a fully informed and collaborative approach with all club members.

This week’s meeting will serve to introduce Rotary International’s FY27 theme: “Create Lasting Impact.”  This year’s theme “encourages all of us, as people of action, to work together to make a meaningful difference in our communities and around the world. It builds on the ways in which members have strengthened their connections to each other and to their communities to Unite for Good, the 2025-26 message. Now, Create Lasting Impact will harness those connections and inspire our members, participants, and the public to take collective actions that lead to a sustainable difference — globally, locally, and personally.”

Looking forward to seeing you there!

 Warm Regards,

 Russ
