It is always one of the most exciting and inspirational club programs each year when we have our RYLA delegates with us to share what this unique leadership training weekend experience has meant to each of them. Unless you have personally participated in a RYLA, or you have had a son or dauighter who has, it if difficult to comprehend how one weekend together at Camp Pinerock can be such a life-changing event. However, this Rotary-sponsored youth program is recognized and admired around the world for what it accomplishes in the lives of young people. We are always also inspired by hearing from some of the parents of these youth, whom we have with us as our guests for this meeting. One of the mothers related to us that she had actually been in Interact as a teen, and had been looking forward all of her life for her daughters, when they reached this age, to have these same Rotary experences which had benefitted and inspired her as a youth. Another parent noted that, for many teens today, who come from broken and disfunctional homes, a RYLA weekend is the first opportunity some of these youth have had to experience being a part of a family, as a member of a RYLA team. He also noted that, in these judgemental times that teens insecurely live, the RYLA teaam experience, with people you have never before met, is the first opportunity for the youth to discover who they really are, and to try out actually being themselves — and find encouragement and acceptance in doing that. Our A.J. Sheridan serves as the RYLA Chair (a huge responsibility), and our club's President-Nominee, Col. Russ Davis, served as a Mentor to one of these RYLA teams this year. To both of these men we say, "Thank you for your service, and your investment in these remarkable youth!" The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) camp is held over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend each year here in Prescott at Camp Pinerock. Talk with A.J. about how you might be able to help, as one of the volunteers, next year. We also have a JR RYLA for middle school youth, which is held here at Camp Wamatochick in June each year. Our club member, Isaiah Spires, serves as the Registrar for that leaership training camp. It is absolutely incredible what we are able to accomplish together through our network of Rotarians around the world, and the utilization of our Rotary Foundation to leverage our humanitarian service contributions. CLUB SERVICE THIS IS REALLY EXCITING! Seven more new members were inducted last week for our satellite Prescott Valley Rotary Club by Co-Presidents Bob Ticer and Joe Sweeney. This brings the membershgip total up to 14, as we work toward our goal of having 25 members of this new club, when they will be able to officially charter as a separate PV Rotary Club with Rotary International.
