DG Jim Schmidt Spoke from His Heart About Rotary

It was obvious that our District Governor Jim Schmidt loves Rotary, which he joined when he was 28 years old.  In a very pesonal way, he shared with us the reasons he joined, and why he has stayed with Rotary over all of these years.

To him, Rotary is all about being able to do more good together, than any of us could possibly do on our own.  He recommended that one of the best ways to introduce a prospective member to Rotary is to invite that person to join you and other Rotarians on a service project.  He emphasized the importance of making every member feel wanted, valued and appreciated.  Kindness in the way we treat each other, he said, is also so very important.

After our club meeting, Past President John Stewart, along with AG Katheryn Tuberty, Prescott-Frontier President Linda Sweeney, and Prescott Rotary Past Pres. Candace Tomlinson, gave DG Jim a special guided tour of the Courthouse Square, showing him the monuments and other memorial markers which have been established, and are regularly maintained, by the three Rotary clubs in Prescott.

At 4:00 on Wednesday afternoon, members from all of the Prescott and Prescott Valley Rotary Clubs gathered at the historic Gurley Street Grill for a reception honoring DG Jim Schmidt, and for a great opportunity to enjoy fellowship with members of the other clubs.

DG Jim Schmidt reminded us of these five key elements of a successful Rotary club experience.

Mile High Middle School Interact
Sunup President Jane Anne proudly added her signature to that of the RI President on the charter certificate, which we just received, for our brand new Mile High Middle School Interact Club.  Thanks to the work of Interact AG Sophia Brown last year, and Interact AG Carly Duggan this year, our club's first middle school Interact Club is finally a reality.

Pictured are the charter members of our new Mile High Middle School Interact Club.  Kneeling in front are Faculty Advisor Katie Winters and Interact AG Carly Duggan.  Missing in this photo are our Rotarian Advisor Jane White, along with Co-Faculty Advisor Heather Christians, who has been sidelined with foot surgery.  The newly-elected Club President is Madison Sturdevant (3rd from the left).

Hello, Fellow Rotarians,

Sincere thanks to DG Jim Schmidt for his official visit last Wednesday, and for his very timely and heart-felt message.

Kudos to Club Greeter Joe Brown for his extraordinary performance, literally capturing our members and guests as they arrived, and ushering them into the Marina Room from the sidewalk outside the hotel!

Living in Prescott this past week reminded me of living in the windy city growing up. Hang on to your hat!

September17th - The supreme law of the United States of America, the US Constitution was drafted by the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention which took place between May 25 and September 17, 1787.  It was the first constitution of its kind, and it has influenced the constitutions of many other nations.

Since the Constitution came into force in 1789, it has been amended 27 times.

$25 Tickets for our Sunup Rotary Jazz Up My Chilli fundraiser are available.  You can buy them at the meeting this week, or contact me and I will get them to you.  You can also go online to the website to buy them when we get the link up.  Clent or John?

The Parks and Recreation department has already replaced the door sweep on the Snack Shack door!  Thank you to Ms Vicki.

Instead of a raffle at the Chili Cookoff, we are having a 50/50 drawing.  Your $25 ticket will entitle you to five 4 oz tasting cups of the chefs’ entries, including Traditional Red Chilli, Homestyle Chilli, Chili Verde and Vegetarian Chili. The event will be held at Touchmark at the Ranch on October 25th from 5:30 PM – 8:00 with the Bob Shimizu Trio.

So far, its a great September!
