Kneip Sets High Goals for YC Athletics
Pres. Jane Anne Shimizu with Tim Kneip, YC Athletic Director

Tim Kneip, Yavapai College's new Athletic Director, gave an impressive presentation to our club about the YC Athletics program — where it has been in the past, and where he is determined to see it go in the the years ahead, now that he is in the driver's seat.

Kneip says his mission as the AD is twofold:
   •  His Academic Mission is for YC's student athletes to graduate with a 3.5 GP A.
   •  His Athletic Mission is for YC to become the most dominant community college in the country.

We spprecisted the opportunity to meet YC's new Athletic Director and to learn about his priorities and plans.  We look forward to watching YC Athletics regain its former glory under Tim's positive leadership.

Spreading Love and Kindness is a basic part of being a Rotarian.  Treating the people we work wth, and do business with, each day with love and kindness should be one of the trademarks these people should be able to expect of those of us us who wear the Rotary pin.

That should also charaterize the way we treat each other as fellow Rotarians and club members.  In our rush to attend to necessary business, and in our determination to get jobs done, we don't always think about the fact that what we say, and how we say it, can offend and hurt the feelings of our co-workers.  The fact is that we have lost members in the past because they have not been treated with love and kindness by their fellow Rotarians.  This is something we need to work on.  May one of our goals this year be to excel in appreciating our fellow members, and in treating them with trademark Rotary love and kindness.

CLUB SERVICE

Presenting the program at this week's club meeting will be our own Ives Devos, speaking about Antique Firearms.  Some of our most interesting programs have been those when our members have shared their special interests and hobbies.  For some of our newer members, you may not be aware that Ives splits his time each year between his home in Prescott and his home in Belgium, where he is also deeply involved in Rotary.  We look forward to what Ives will have to say about this unique special intertst oif his.

DISTRICT NEWS

Several weeks ago we told our club members about the terrible car accident which Interact AG Eric Boateng had, trying at get home from the Interact District Council Retreat, in order to catch a flight to Washington DC, to participate in a national youth leadership conference.  He is out of the hospital and is now undergoing physical therapy to enable him to walk again.   As can be seen from the newspaper ad above, the Anthem Rotary Club called on their community to help Eric and his family with the mounting bills associated with his accident, his medical, legal and rehab bills.  They scheduled a benefit car wash.

Eric is seen above in his wheelchair at that car wash, surrounded by enthusiastic Anthem Rotary Club members.  Our congratulations to Anthem Rotary and their supportive community.  With their 4-hour car wash, they raised overc $10,000 to help Eric and his family.  Anthem Rotarians have certainly proven they are Rotary People of Action who can get it done!!

I just saw on the news that they’re suggesting people check on the elderly.
I’m usually up by 6 or 6:30.

Jane Anne Shimizu

Hello, Fellow Rotarians,

When you google what happened on August 27th in history NATIONAL PEACH DAY, NATIONAL POTS DE CRÈME DAY AND NATIONAL JUST BECAUSE DAY.  I will personally go with the 3rd National Just Because Day.

On August 27, 1987, the Rotary Club of Marshall, Texas, inducted its first two women members, Carolyn Abney and Patti Harris. This was a historic event for the club and a powerful local example of Rotary International's recent decision to admit women.

August 1910: The first Rotary convention took place in Chicago, where 16 clubs formed the National Association of Rotary Clubs.

In lieu of September's Alzeheimer's Walk on September 27th, we will be selling bracelets at our Wednesday's meetings. They will be for a 5.00 donation so bring your bucks. All donations from all Rotary Clubs will be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation for research. Our goal is 500.00.  The cost to walk is $100 and you will get a walk T-Shirt.

Top of the list for The Rotary Club of Prescott Sunup is the raising of pricing at the Snack Shack.  I have solicited a vote from the Board of Directors and the Foundation Board for their opinion on the two different pricing schedules.

Opinions from all the members would also be greatly appreciated.  Snack Shack opens this Thursday with Richard, myself and Vicki Mickel so don’t not have an opinion.  Email me today at jane@bshimizu.com.

Until Wednesday, ponder this topic…see you then.  You can email me your opinion at jane@bshimizu.com.
