Abby Coffey, Executive Director of the Arizona Philharmonic, gave us a rapid-fire and very informative overview of this remarkable professional ensemble based in Prescott. She told us that Arizona has three types of orchestras. The two full-time ones are the Phoenix Symphony and the Tucson Symphony. AZ Phil is classified as a regional orchestra. Both of these types consist of auditioned professional musicians who have their master’s or doctoral degrees in music performance. However, not all of the members of our Arizona Philharmonic actually reside here in Prescott, and they have a more limited performance schedule than the two full-time symphonies. Community orchestras are the third type, and community members who are not professional musicians with advanced degrees in music are able to participate in these local musical groups.
Abby is both a music educator and a professional flute and piccolo player, as well as having additional professional management and marketing training. While our AZ Philharmonic is known for its performances of classical music, Abby says they actually feature a wide variety of music each year in their concerts, which are on Sunday afternoons at 3:00, in the Ruth Street Auditorium, located on the Prescott High School campus. She gave us a run-down on this year’s schedule of performances, and told us that tickets for each concert, as well as season tickets, are available on their website, AZPhil.org.
"What is Rotary?"
Elevating your Elevator Speech answer
Rotarians are encouraged to attract members and supporters with a 60-second speech. The Elevator Speech is a short and impactful summary that you can use to communicate the most important details about your Rotary club or project and capture the attention of a potential member or supporter.
Here are six tips from Toastmasters to create and deliver a perfect powerful pitch.
- Present your club as an opportunity.
- Keep it simple.
- Remember your enthusiasm.
- Cut to the keywords.
- Build the hype.
- Find common ground.
Summarizing your Rotary experience and capturing the interest of your audience in the span of 30 to 60 seconds is no small task, but it doesn’t have to be a complicated affair. Armed the six tips above, and some confidence, you can craft a perfect pitch that’s sure to drum up interest and leave an impression on your listeners.
Sharing Rotary is one of the greatest gifts you can ever give!

PV Healing Fields happens with Prescott Sunup's and ERAU Rotaract's help
Prescott Sunup Rotary and our ERAU Silver Wings Rotaract Clubs were well-represented Friday morning, as we helped install 3,000 flags on the lawn of the PV Civic Center, remembering and honoring all of the lives lost in the terrorist attack on the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001. May we never forget!
Club Secretary Melanie Berry was there to help, assisted by her somewhat -disabled husband Jon Berry, our Youth Services Director.

In dire need of a beauty makeover, I went to my salon with a fashion magazine photo of a gorgeous, young, lustrous-haired model. I showed the stylist the trendy new cut I wanted and settled into the chair as he began humming a catchy tune and got to work on my thin, graying hair.
I was delighted by his cheerful attitude until I recognized the melody. It was the theme from "Mission: Impossible."

·A long-married couple is dining out at a fine restaurant when the husband orders a Scotch.
“I’ve never had Scotch,” the wife tells the waiter. The waiter returns with two Scotches.
The wife takes a swallow and gags. “This is awful! How can you drink this stuff?”
Between sips, her husband replies, “And here you thought I was out enjoying myself every night.”
