Most our club members can't make it to the monthly Club Board Meetings, like the April meeting pictured above. However, participating in one of our Sunup Time Club Meetings is the next-best investment of your time. These Sunup Time Meetings, like the one last Wednesday, are essentially club members' work sessions, where we talk, plan and work together to get things done. Part of the time in this meeting was spent discussing the extended ball games schedule, and when additional help will be needed with the Snack Shack. However, the bulk of the meeting was spent working out the details of how to staff and prepare to make the upcoming Pancakes on the Patio club fundraiser, on Saturday, May 9, most successful Jane White commented, "I like these Sunup Time Meetings, because they eliminate the need for a lot of evening planning meetings."
Our thanks to John Stewart, who just returned from his annual exile in Yuma, for this photo of last week's Club Board Meeting. Co-President Laura Vanderberg is presiding, and Col. Russ Davis had just arrived from work in his dress uniform. A number of events are happening in and around ERAU in conjunctiion with Col. Russ' retirement from the US Air Force this week, before stepping into the leadership role of serving as our Prescott-Sunup Rotary Club President for the 2026-27 Rotary Year.
Rotary Leadership Training
The Newly Re-branded Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)
Rotary Connections is an incredibly eye-opening and beneficial learning opportunity for new, as well as veteran, Rotarians. Together, with members of other Rotary clubs from around the state, you will work through three levels of learning about how our amazing organization works — one day at a time. Sessions 1,2 and 3 will all be offered next on Saturday, May 30, from 8:00 - 4:00, at the Anthem Civic Building in Anthem. We believe that this is such a valuable experience for every club member to have that our club will reimburse you the $65 registration cost per session, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch and the training materials.
CLUB SERVICE
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Sunup's Roadside Cleanup on April 18
Here are the photos we were lacking for last week's issue of The Sunupian. We usually have a larger crew show up to help with this longstanding community service project. Thanks to this crew for getting the job done this time for our club, and to Jane White for chairing the project. With our club doing this cleanup twice each year, our adopted section of Highway 89A is always one of the cleanest sections of the highway — and we take pride in having our club's name on it,
All Vets Memorial Cleanup - May 16
Our annual Cleamup of the All-Veterans Memorial, on the west side of the Courthouse Square, will be on Saturday, May 16, at 8:30 a.m.
Mark your calendar, and plan to come lend a hand!

ROTARY FOUNDATION
So how did our club's Let's Make A Deal annual fundraising for The Rotary Foundation turn out?

DISTRICT NEWS
Our 2026 Rotary District Conference is happening this weekend, May 1-2, at the Mesa Sheraton in Mesa. A number of our club members will be participating in this conference, and our Co-President Laura Vanderberg will be leading one of the elective breakout sessions. District Governor Jim Schmidt has been doing a great job of leading and inspiring our district this year, and we expect this District Conference to be one of the best ever.
A Unique Club Fundraiser Worth Sharing:
Mark Dozier, Club President, says: "My Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club is partnering with Memory Expert Sean O'Neil to have a
SHARPEN YOUR MEMORY Workshop on
Saturday, May 16. This fun workshop will start at 9:00am in Oldtown Scottsdale. It is being held in the
Bob Bove Neurospine Institute building, which is on the campus of Osborn Medical Center.
Cost is $259 for two people. You register for $259 and can bring a guest at no additional charge.
We had 5 members from my Club attend Sean's memory workshop last year and all strongly endorse it.
A delicious lunch is included in the registration fee. There is ample parking right beside the Bob Bove Neuroscience Institute building.
I know that I need to be sharpened in the critical area of memory. My wife, Claudia, and I, are signed up to participate. Please consider joining us and bringing along others who would benefit."

I know why this next month is called "May."
It may rain, it may snow, it may be 80 degrees, it may be 20!

Older dog to pup - "They give you a lot of treats while they are training you,
So play dumb for as long as you can."

Question : Why are they are called "deviled eggs?"
Answer: Because the voices whisper and make you eat 25 of them.
__
My spring clothes have missed me so much!!
I put them on and they hugged me so tight I could barely breathe.

An old man once said: "Erasers are made for those who make mistakes."
A kid replied: "Erasers are made for those who are willing to correct their mistakes."

Question asked in a donut shop: "What do you have with no fat and no sugar?"
Reply: "Napkins."

I'll never be OK with donut shops cutting a hole in my donut,
And then charging me separately for the same hole they robbed me of.

The fastest way to mess up someone's Knock Knock joke?
Reply "It's open!"
{But would we really do that to Laura?}

I love board games!
My favorite one is where people put meat and cheese on the board. Maybe some fruit and crackers.
I'm so good at that one!
