President Christy Manning and President Elect Jane Anne Shimizu (who served as the Chair of the event) earned high marks for an enjoyable evening of fun and fellowship at this year's Holiday Dinner Party. DGN Joe Sweeney and some of the Sunupians attending our Holiday Dinner Party, held in the Marina Room at the Hassayampa Inn. These beautiful ladies were definitely having fun at this year's Christmas party! The highlight of the evening was Dr. Gus Bergman's announcement of the creation of a new $3,000 endowed scholarship which will be awarded each year, through our Rotary club, to a graduating high school senior planning on entering the medical field. The scholarsip is above-and-beyond the scholarships awarded from our Sunup Rotary Foundation. This scholarship will be endowed by the Gus Bergman Family Foundation. Thank you, Gus, for your generosity in establishing this new scholarship, which will benefit so many youth in the future! From John Hewko, RI General Secretary: Thank you for your generous support of The Rotary Foundation. This past year, more children have had opportunity to grow into healthy adults, more healthcare workers have gained skills to save lives, and more ecosystems have been restored because people like you choose to invest in solutions that empower individuals and strengthen communities. We are building a healthier, more resilient, and more peaceful world. I invite you to be among the first to read about the difference we’re making together in our 2023-24 annual report. We have reason to celebrate. More than 400 million children were vaccinated against polio in 2023, with the support of Rotary and our polio eradication partners. We also have much to be thankful for and to hope for in the future. Our donors contributed more than US$417 million in gifts and commitments, and we awarded US$82 million in total funding to more than 1,200 global grants. The stories about our impact and supporters, alongside the financial information, in this year’s report testify to the strength of our partnership. I have confidence in the good the Rotary community will continue to achieve together, locally and globally. Sincerely, John Hewko General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation CLUB SERVICE The next Fundraising Committee Meeting will be Tuesday, January 7, 5:30 p.m., at The Finn at Touchmark COMMUNITY SERVICE Record-Breaking Food Bank Collections I want to personally thank those Rotarians that came out and gave of their time to sort through hundreds of cans, bottles and cereal boxes to help the less fortunate.
