Atonna Presents The Highlands Center for Natural History

Lee Atonna did a beautiful job at our last meeting of better acquainting us with The Highlands Center for Natural History, which has become a regional hub for lifelong learning through outdoor education. With nature trails, a native botanical garden, educational programs and events we nurture a meaningful sense of place and foster an appreciation for and knowledge of the Central Arizona Highlands. The development of both onsite and offsite outdoor education programs and partnerships provides opportunities for our community to understand the connections between humanity and the natural world, inspiring all to live in a respectful and sustainable way."

Many Prescott residents say it is their favorite place for small outdoor musical events. The "Music in the Highlands" concert series will be featuring Gypsy Soul on Saturday, June 8th at 6:30 p.m. Another favorite feature hosted by the Highlands Center is the annual "Shakespeare in the Pines." Being featured this year on June 14-15 and 21-22 will be "Comedy of Errors." Tickets for these events can be purchased on their highlandscenter.org website.

ROTARY RAGS

Rotary Action Groups (RAGS) are independent, Rotary-affiliated groups made up of people from around the world who are experts in a particular field, such as economic development, peace, addiction prevention, the environment, or water.

Action groups offer their technical expertise and support to help clubs plan and implement projects to increase our impact, one of Rotary's strategic priorities. This support includes helping clubs find partners, funding, and other resources. Action groups can also help clubs and districts prepare grant applications, conduct community assessments, and develop plans to monitor and evaluate their projects. Most of the current 25 Rotary RAGS hold an annual meeting of their members in conjunction with the Rotary International Convention.

Anyone who wants to share their expertise to make a positive difference can join an action group. Only Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Rotary Peace Fellows can serve in leadership roles.

CLUB SERVICE

A Ramada at Goldwater Lake will be the location for our annual Sunup Rotary Installation Dinner on Wednesday, June 19, at 5:00 p.m.. If you have not yet made your reservation for this barbecue event, contact Christy Manning, cmanning@oneazcu.com, ASAP.

It was good to see a Rotary Row of our Sunup club members on Saturday at the Memorial Service for Rusty Parker, paying tribute to his 30+ years of Rotary service. They included A.J. Sheridan, John Stewart, Val Ripley, and Art & Sharon Harrington.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE

Paul Harris Award recipients at our last meeting included Steve Sample (PHF+1), along with Harlan and Marsha Teller, who both received their Paul Harris Certificates and pins.
