We were privileged to have with us on Wednesday DGE Leo Lawerson from our neighboring southern Arizona District 5100 to talk to us about the amazing ShelterBox Rotary disaster relief program.  ShelterBox began in 2000 as a Cornish Rotary Club’s millennium project. With the support of Rotary members and clubs around the world, ShelterBox grew to become an internationally recognised, independent disaster relief organisation. Since 2012, ShelterBox and Rotary have been official Project Partners in disaster relief.  Rotary General Secretary John Hewko says, “The partnership between Rotary and ShelterBox has provided a place of refuge to people facing some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives.”

ShelterBox has been one of the best examples of what one Rotarian can do with an good idea — beginning by sharing it with his own Rotary club.  The idea that one green tub could contain a tent to acommodate 10 people, along with food and cooking eating utensils, and much more, to help a family in a disaster situation, was the basis of the ShelterBox disaster relief program.  Leo serves as the Arizona representative of this program which has so-far helped tens of thousands of people around the world who have been caught up in natural disasters.  He is looking for a Rotarian in northern Arizona who would be willing to help him to more widely represent the program here in this part of the state.

Tentative schedule for putting on the chicken wire is 1-5 PM November 1.
Tentative schedule for putting the feathers on is 1- 5 PM November 7, and 1-5 PM November 8.  This will depend heavily on whether or not rain is scheduled.  I will update you before your meeting on the 5th.
Branches and finishing touches will be November 10,  11 AM to 5 PM.
I will be there all of those hours.  If anyone has just an hour or two to help on any of those days, you are welcome to come and help!
