It was in 2004 that Mike joined the Phoenix West Rotary Club and was introduced to the ethical values of Rotary that mirrored those he grew up with and experienced while working for the family dealerships and operating Tanner Collision. His passion for Rotary fueled his desire to be club president of Phoenix West. As president during 2011-2012, Mike began to recognize a need to help Rotarians return to their networking roots. Mike also knew there must be a better way and began toying with the idea of helping Rotarians connect club-to-club via the internet, rather than the limited opportunities of member-to-member networking.
In 2022, Mike secured the URL trustarian.com with the intention of creating a worldwide search engine that would encourage Rotarians to first seek out other Rotarians for goods and services and to publicly share the value of doing business with Rotarians. It wasn’t until 2020, when he was freed up from his responsibilities of operating Tanner Collision, that he got serious and connected with fellow Rotarian Mike Whalen of Noptim, a digital strategy company, to help bring his dream into reality.

It was celebration time at our meeting last week, in honor of Xiao Zhu Clancy's achievement of becoming a U.S. Citizen — including congratulations brought by Prescott Mayor Phil Goode.

Harlon Teller, who was inducted into membership in our Prescott Sunup Rotary Club at last week's meeting, is pictured here as he shared about his family and background. Lisa Doherty, his membership sponsor, is on his left, with Past Pres. Richard, who officially inducted him, on the right. Harlon is the Chief Marketing Officer for Northern Arizona University. He is is married, with two sons. Formerly from Chicago, he now resides in Prescott.
Since 1985, Rotary's #1 Priority has been Worldwide Polio Eradication. By that time, Rotary had managed to wipe out Polio in the Philippines, but there were still 1,000 cases per day of the crippling, and often fatal, cases of the Wild Polio Virus. Rotary was told that totally wiping out Polio in the entire world was impossible — but Rotarians have always believed that where there is a will, there will always be a way to accomplish anything.
Today Rotary's goal is in sight! With the help of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, many of the governments of nations around he world, along with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, together we have eliminated Polio in all but two countries: Pakistan and Afghanistan, two war-torn countries where it has been so difficult to reach and get the two drops of polio vaccine into the mouths of all of the children. Over a billion dollars of Rotarians' funds have been invested in this massive endeavor to get us this far; but last year there were only 22 cases of the Wild Polio Virus in the entire world — all in these two countries. To date this year, there have been 2 cases reported in Pakistan, and 5 cases in Afghanistan. We are so close — but we are not quite there yet; and as long as any case of the Wild Polio Virus exists anywhere in the world, the danger exists of it spreading in mutated forms once again worldwide. Rotarians and Rotary clubs continue to be urged to contribute to The Rotary Foundation's PolioPlus polio eradication initiative. And for every dollar toward this effort that Rotarians contribute, the Gates Foundation contributes 2 additional dollars.
