Emmett Introduces Freddie the Frog to Our Club and to Prescott

In "the big reveal" at last Wednesday's club meeting, Emmett Jones, who along with his wife Tiffany, serves as the Chair of our Family Fun Fest, introduced Freddie the Frog, our new mascot of our fundraising event.  Freddie, of course, was an instant hit with all of our club members..

Emmett gave the club an update on where we are in our planning amd preparation for this June 22 club fundraising event.  Among other things, he revealed that we have recruited close to $10,000 in in-kind donaions.  He emphasized, though, that we especially need to concentrate, in the weeks ahead, on recruiting sponsors of our event who will give us cash donations.  Here is the form to use in recruiting Family Fun Fest Sponsors:

Where's Freddie?

WHERE'S FREDDIE?  Freddie was at our club meeting on Wednesday, but he will be getting around town, vsiting many businesses and events, leading up to our Sunup Rotary Family Fun fest at Touchmark on Sunday, June 22.

You will be seeing the WHERE'S FREDDIE? caption on many pictures of him shared in different locations, which will be shared on social media, challenging the viewer to figure out where Freddie was when the latest picture of him was snapped.

THE STRONG CONNECTION of ROTARY with PEACE is evidenced by the club sign of the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club, in Westport, CT, on the top of a Peace Pole.

The pursit of peace has long been one of Rotary's top goals.  It was a group oif Rotarians, along with others, who established the United Nations, where Rotary International still has a seat.  Rotary has Seven Areas of Focus, with Peace and Conflict Resolution being one of the seven.  In order for any Global Grant Project to be approved by The Rotary Foundation, it must fit into at least one of these 7 Areas of Focus.  Rotary sponsors seven Peace Centers at key universities around the world where selected Rotary Peace Fellows can earn a 2-year specialized degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution.  At an additional university in Thailand it is possible to earn, through a 6-month program, a Rotary-sponsored Peace & Conflict Resolution Certificate.

This Friday afternoon, at 2:30, our Prescott High School Interact Club will be dedicating a Peace Pole they have created on the Prescott High campus. As their sponsoring Rotary club, our members are invited to join them for this event.  It will be noted that the Prescott-Frontier Rotary Club, which has sponsored a number of peace-related projects, helped to finance this one.

CLUB SERVICE

The most exciting Family Fun Fest News was the introduction of Freddie the Frog at last week's meeting, and the fact that WHERE'S FREDDIE? photos, with Freddie at different locations around town have begun to show up in social media posts since his debut at our Rotary meeting.

Some have asked, "What will be the admission to our Sunup Rotary Family Fun Fest at Touchmark on June 22?"  The answer is $5 for an individual, and $20 for a family.

Our satellite Prescott Valley Rotary Club meets thia Tuesday, April 22, from 4:30 -6::00, at the PV Elks Club..  PDG Art Harrington, Sunup's Rotary Foiundation Chair, will be explaining why The Rotary Foundation is truly "The Enabling Arm of Rotary,"

We need more Snack Shack help.  For some shifts, we only have one person signed up.  That person will need help, since it is impossibe for one person to do all that needs to be done.  Two on a shift is bettter, and three is best!

Please click on this link to see what dates and times could use your help, and sign up to lend a hand:
It really is FUN to work the Snack Shack with a crew of your fellow club members!

YOUTH SERVICE

Cathleen Cherry, the Faculty Advisor to our PHS Interact Club, has announced that the club raised $440 for the Interact Ambassadors Program through their 2nd Annual Colt Grill Barbeque fundraiser last Wednesday.

Our thanks to Colt Grill for partnering and sharing the profits with our PHS Interact Club to help them send members of their club as Interact Ambassadors to Mexico and Kenya this summer.  Thanks also to the Sunup Rotarians who purchased tickets in support of this event.

We are excited to announce that Col. Russ Davis has agreed to serve as our Sunup Rotary Club's new Youth Service Director.  In this key position, he will be working with our Interact, RYLA, JR RYLA, Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotaract and Youth Scholarships programs.  Russ is replacing Jon Berry, who moved to Florida.

SPEAKER: Bruce Rosenberg

SUBJECT: Prescott Habitat for Humanity

The Prez Says
Christy Manning
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter filled with peace, joy, and time with loved ones.  The spirit of Easter (renewal, hope, and compassion) resonates deeply with Rotary’s mission to create lasting change and uplift our communities.

A big thank you to those who took part in the Granite Creek cleanup!  I heard our club showed up in great numbers, and that’s something to celebrate.  Service events like this are more than just giving back, they’re a reminder of how strong we are when we come together.  These moments truly bring “Service Above Self” to life.

Let’s keep that energy going!  I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday as we continue to grow, connect, and serve. I’m excited to hear the update on the Family Fest as I heard we may have collected some sponsorship dollars this last week!  😊
