2021 Veterans Memorial Cleanup

Prescott SunUp Rotarians - 2021 Veterans Memorial Cleanup
at the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza

Prescott SunUp Rotarians gathered again this year to clean and freshen up the All Vets memorial at the Yavapai County Courthouse.  A large crew gathered on a beautiful Saturday morning to pull weeds, cut back overgrowth, clean railings, clean the granite platform and the memorial statue.  They also planted new flowers, reconfigured the drip irrigation, and spread new beauty bark throughout the flower bed.  And in keeping with tradition, the group sang the National Anthem and taps was played by Bruce Moeller to close out the event.  In the end, the memorial is ready for another year of dedication to those who so valiantly served our country.

A Note from PASS

Posted by Todd Clancy on Mar 30, 2020
Fellow Sunupians,

Despite these trying times, it's still been an eventful two weeks for our club. The shelters are experiencing full capacity, and this includes Prescott Area Shelter and Services. They were still desperately seeking out furnishings for the new additions. We were able to find and have delivered a GREAT dining room table set (see thank you note). Additionally, they were in dire need of mattresses and Yoichi answered their calls. Yoichi delivered one mattress to the shelter and provided two more mattresses from his house. WAY TO GO YOICHI!

As sad as it was to close down the snack shack last week, this did have its silver lining. We had the opportunity to donate our remaining inventory to the Community Cupboard Food Bank, which is experiencing massive demands. The folks at the food bank were very grateful and we were certainly very happy to be of assistance.

Obviously we took great care in abiding by the current health guidelines in protecting ourselves as well as others while carrying out these tasks.
Thanks AJ and Bud!

Cheers!
Todd

RYLA 2018 Volunteers Need to Sign Up Now!

There is still time to sign up to help as an adult volunteer for RYLA 2018. If interested go to RYLA5495pinerock.org volunteer. You don’t have to be a Rotarian but it helps.      There is no cost to you, only your commitment of time and energy. The payoff for the student delegates in terms of learning and improving leadership skills, making great new friends and having fun along the way far exceeds their time commitment.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards or RYLA is a program of Rotary International (RI),   and is comprised of almost 32,000 clubs located in more than 165 countries around the world. Its members form a global network of business and professional leaders, men, and women, who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities and the world.  Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self, exemplifies the humanitarian spirit of the organization’s more than 1.2 million members.

Rotary clubs are organized within more than 500 R.I. districts worldwide, many of which sponsor their own RYLA programs. District 5495, the “Grand Canyon District,” incorporates 42 rotary clubs located in northwest Arizona, ranging from Phoenix to the Colorado River, Lake Havasu & Bullhead Cities, Kingman, Williams, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Verde Valley and the Prescott area.

Our Prescott area RYLA experience is offered to high school sophomores and juniors whom their parents, teachers and school staff have identified as showing good leadership potential.  RYLA 5495 PineRock, is held over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend in January at Camp PineRock in Prescott Arizona.

Our curriculum offers student leaders training in the following area:  Fundamentals of Leadership, Ethics and Leadership, the importance of communication skills in effective leadership, problem-solving and conflict management, Rotary’s purpose and service to the community, building self-confidence and self-esteem, elements of community and global citizenship, and a whole lot of fun and great new friends along the way.

This is truly a great and fun experience for high school students and as noted above the payoff far exceeds the time and effort given by participants.
Again, go to RYLA5495pinerock.org to volunteer as an adult, registration is open now.
